"Would come again"

10.0

Had Avery pleasant stay, this was one of my top ten places to stay, and I wasn’t disappointed. We didn’t have a spooky experience, but we had wonderful time. The caretakers cottage was comfortable, and it was creepy looking/feeling. Rainy, the young lady that was our tour guide, was. Set knowledgeable about the property and was very friendly.

We visited the Myrtles once before to tour the house. When we had an overnight stop, we chose the Myrtles. We only wished we had made our reservation a few weeks ahead of when we did, because we missed out on a inside room in the main house.

"Loved our stay in the main house"

10.0

We enjoyed our overnight stay in the Ruffin Stirling room. Comfortable bed and had all of the amenities like most hotels have such as a hair dryer, complimentary shampoo etc. For this particular room, our bathroom was in the hall but it was a private bathroom. There are several rooms that have the bathroom within the suite though. We enjoyed a complimentary breakfast and day tour of the hotel. I highly recommend staying here. There is a lot of hype about it being haunted, but we enjoyed a peace stay.

"spirit of the south"

10.0

In St. Francisville, where shadows creep, A haunted mansion guards secrets deep. Beneath moss-draped oaks, this town is rare. you won’t see Starbucks, just local fare, In this quiet town, with history grand, The spirit of the South takes your hand.

"History Tour"

4.0

The grounds are beautiful and so is the home, but the history tour wasn't much history pertaining to the property. It was very shallow, we mainly learned about the furniture and the homes design. We did hear some stories about the families living in the home, but without much detail. My biggest complaint is how they didn't mention slavery, which I find disrespectful and dismissive considering this plantations history. I understand it may be a somber topic, but l personally think that's the point of a history tour. All integral history should be mentioned, not just the pleasant parts. When asked a question pertaining to slavery, our guide(who tried his best) uncomfortably answered and immediately changed the subject. I just found it odd for a plantation tour to revolve mainly around fancy home decor. I expected much more, as I went to Oak Alley the day before and had a wonderful tour which was both insightful and informative, showing both sides of history in a very matter of fact manner. I would definitely recommend Oak Alley if you're interested in history, as The Myrtle's Plantation missed the mark on using their tours to educate, rather than entertain.

"Just a bit of fun"

6.0

If you don’t take it too seriously it’s actually quite good fun. We started with the evening ghost tour, with our tour guide dressed in period costume. An entertaining performance with creepy stories for each room in the house, and all the lights turned down low for extra atmosphere. We stayed the night in one of the suites but have to inform you that we actually had a really good sleep with no bumps in the night to report. It’s a lovely building and a rare opportunity to spend the night in such a place. The restaurant is ok, but our over confident waiter, who didn’t write our order down, brought two completely different meals out to us and frankly the complimentary dessert (one portion between two) really didn’t cut it. I overheard the fella behind the bar asking his colleague which bottle was the house white and noticed him pouring sparking wine into a red wine glass, so I think a bit of staff training wouldn’t go amiss but all in all we enjoyed ourselves and are glad we went.

Nice if you're already in Baton Rouge or that area for some reason, not worth a drive from New Orleans or farther. It's the middle of no where.
