Kakrona Pouk Homestay

Perfect for escaping the city and experiencing life in a close knit community. We were there at the beginning of Khmer New Year and Meta invited us along to all the village ceremonies and parties. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming and we had the best time dancing. Meta’s brother also drove us into Siem Reap to see the Phare circus which was amazing!

We booked this homestay knowing it was outside Siem Reap because we wanted to experience something else than the city life. It was super cozy and the host was amazing! He took us to an crocodile farm as well as the old silk farm. Definitely recommended!

We had a wonderful time at Metas Homestay. Meta and his family and friends are great hosts and showed us the real Cambodian lifestyle. We learned so much about the country and had this great opportunity to look behind the touristic phasade of the country and get insights in rice harvest, Cambodian family life and Cambodian daily life routines.

We loved our stay here. You stay out in the countryside and it's basic but the host is incredible! He helped us so much on our first day in Cambodia with cheap SIM cards etc and took us on a fabulous trip around his town. Hands down the best host we've had in over 2 months of backpacking. They offer dinner instead of breakfast which was a lovely touch.

Just be aware this is rural which added to our experience but you won't be easily popping into Siam Reap

I stayed in a home stay for 3 nights. Meta, the owner, is a very nice person. The place is simple but nice, close to nature and village life. If you need something Meta will always help you, he's very helpful. You have many possibilities to visit different attractions for a good price. Water is free. And breakfast and dinner, beer you can share with his family, he charges very small price for it. If you want to explore the village Cambodian life - that's your option.

It was very hot when I was there. And the bed doesn't have the natural fabric, so it wasn't comfortable for me because I was sweating all night. There's a fan in the room, but it wasn't enough for me. Be prepared to the "village sounds". Probably you'll need earplugs if you sleep not so deeply as me. Discuss prices and other charges in advance to avoid misunderstandings about what is and isn't included in your stay.

We had the best time at this homestay! It isn't in the city but in the countryside and the host couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. We were made to feel really welcome and just had the best time here! So much better than a city hotel. Our host took us around his town and to local places of interest. We were welcomed at their village rice harvest which was really lovely. If you want an experience as much as a place to stay then this place was awesome

Smey (the homestay owner) is a beautiful, honest person with a heart of gold. I was only there for a few days but I already know I have to return. I taught in the after school English lessons for a couple of days (that Smey usually teaches himself for free) and the children were so wonderful, friendly and willing to learn. He gave me a room that was more expensive than the one I originally booked and was always there to help with anything I needed. The rooms also have balconies with hammocks with just enough privacy/sociability. It was the perfect place to relax. It’s about 10minutes out of the centre of Banlung, so better if you ride a bike so that you can travel around whenever you like. But about the homestay in general I have no complaints. Very peaceful, simple and clean with a beautiful garden. Jungle trekking is pretty expensive if you’re travelling alone (like me), it was also hot season and I had limited time so I decided to save for next time but you HAVE to go to the waterfalls. Hands down the best waterfalls I have seen in my life, and so close. You can rent a bike and go. Practically no tourists, untouched, huge with amazing swimming spots. Thanks Smey for a great stay!

This homestay will give you an authentic local Cambodian experience. Meta was absolutely brilliant in ensuring that all our wishes were met, including two 4am starts to visit the temples at Angkor Wat using his local knowledge to visit the best temples at the right time to avoid the crowds. I will always remember sitting in the rice fields with Meta and the local farmers sharing food and a beer watching the sunset, amazing.

A bit far out, which makes it quite pricey if you want to go to the city every day.
