We spent four unforgettable days at El Picnic and it was truly a special experience. Of course, the view over Lake Atitlán is absolutely breathtaking – peaceful, panoramic, and ever-changing with the light. But what truly sets this place apart is the warmth and hospitality of Gaby and Jochen. From the moment we arrived, they made us feel at home. They are incredibly thoughtful, friendly, and full of great recommendations for day trips and activities around the lake. Their passion for the place and for making guests feel welcome really shines through. And then there’s the food – the cherry on top of an already amazing stay. Breakfast and dinner are a daily surprise, and every single meal was a delight. Creative, fresh, and absolutely delicious – it’s clear a lot of love goes into every dish. If you’re looking for a peaceful, soulful retreat with personal touches and outstanding food, look no further than El Picnic. We can’t wait to come back!

Die Lage des El Picnic Atitlan ist gigantisch und der Blick beim Frühstück auf den See, nicht zu übertreffen. Die Gastgeber sind viel mehr als Gastgeber und wir fühlten uns Teil der Familie. Gaby und ihr Mann, der uns übriges hervorragend bekocht hat, haben von Anfang an mit uns in Kommunikation gestanden und uns wirklich bei allem unterstützt und geholfen. Herzlichen Dank! Wir hatten eine unvergessliche Zeit.

You could write a book on all the wonderful things about El Picnic. Jochen&Gaby have crafted a serene and beautiful experience with some of the most amazing views of Lake Atitlan. Stellar views, thoughtfully designed rooms, relaxing lounge area, and delicious meals. It's a glamping experience that provides a great hub for checking out the other lake towns. Easy to get around via tuktuk or the ferry. Gaby was also so incredibly helpful and always available for any questions, suggestions or booking help. Jochen is modest about his culinary skills but they were plated beautifully, great portions and above all delicious. The mental recharge you get from the well maintained and beautiful grounds is unparalleled. Only word of advice is that bags with shoulder straps are prefered because there are steps and its easier to climb without rolling luggages. Do yourself the favor and book this amazing retreat with picture perfect views of the lake.

Jochen and gaby were stellar hosts, gaby answered a billion of my questions with assistance for booking and getting around. They are so sweet and dedicate all their efforts to make this stay as wonderful as possible for their guest. Breakfast is delicious and the view/ spaces of the property is so peaceful. For reference: The glamping tent has a non-blackout curtain infront of the bed but adjacent is the little sitting area which is curtain free - sunrise starts maybe 5ish so bring night mask if you want to sleep in. Additionally, the birds and rooster will start a concert at 5ish too and then the dogs join at 6/7. If there’s a party going on you will hear it but overall is a very serene location (other towns are noisy all day long). I did get 5 big bites, it’s open in the nature so there are ants, spiders, but everything was extremely clean and the bathroom is perfection (hot water a plus).

Disclaimer: this was my experience as my mistake for thinking I liked nature lol! It has nothing to do with the property !! But if you are A LIGHT SLEEPER then just book a hotel- for me the view wasn’t worth my lack of proper sleep since it was cloudy anyways but my husband absolutely loved it, slept and didn’t mind it ! It seems all around it’s extremely safe both the town and the area - however, as a female solo travel I would have not felt safe given there’s no real walls or door.

There are few experiences like waking up to the sunrise over Lake Atitlan in a basically open air tent. This alone made the trip for us. Moreover, Joachin is a fantastic chef, and every meal we had was delicious. These meals also made a community of the guests.

We didn’t stay long enough.

The breakfast views overlook the lake and volcano, and the best way to start the day. I really enjoyed the breakfast prepared by the host (fyi it’s extra) but so worth the price!! The staff will help call the tuk tuks to help get around because it is a ways away from the pier. There are the cutest dogs on site too. From the rooms, they are open, with an option to close if you don’t want to wake with the sun. We didn’t experience much mosquitos despite sleeping with nature. It was truly the best stay. Don’t hesitate to stay here! It’s a 10/10 experience

The only thing is that the shower in our room was either very hot or very cold, and they came out of different spots so you couldn’t combine the two for “warm” water.
