El Picnic Atitlan

From start to finish, felt welcome at El Picnic. Met the owners and had a home cooked dinner prepared soon after arrival. Breakfast was amazing with a great view. Room/bed were very comfortable.

Wonderful ecolodge high on the slope above Lake Atitlan. Access is through a number of very steep steps so not recommended for those that may not like steep hikes, are afraid of heights, or with certain medical conditions limiting their ability to asend steps at higher elevations.

Lovely setting and hosts Super clean and comfy Great views Nice food for dinner Good location along the hiking path to the next town over ....although the town that it's in has very little going on. We stayed in the biggest room which was huge and very comfy.

Exposure to outside is sometimes loud, after all it is Guatemala and there are stray dogs that make noise at night. But otherwise no complaints my stay was excellent

It’s a little bit tricky to get to but the place itself is perfect

You will not find a more unique property or fascinating couple who are your hosts. They designed this volcanic tent/cottage resort with a panoramic view of Lake Atitlan and her Volcanoes. An amazing dining hall/bar etched into the volcanic rock with cusine made from scratch from your incredible Hosts Jochen y Gabbie. The sous vide steak/lomito was delicious. The nights under the moon and stars with the sounds of nature all around, make this a must stay at the lake. Hosts will hire private boats to enjoy the rest of the lake.

Staying at The Picnic Hotel in Tzununa was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. From the moment we arrived, the owner and staff welcomed us with such warmth and friendliness that it felt like coming home. Their hospitality made our stay incredibly personal and special. The hotel is nestled right in the heart of nature, offering a peaceful, grounding atmosphere that’s hard to find anywhere else. Waking up to the breathtaking view of the volcano and overlooking the serene Lake Atitlán was nothing short of magical. It’s the kind of place that makes you slow down, breathe deeper, and truly appreciate the beauty around you. If you’re looking for an authentic, soul-nourishing escape in Guatemala, The Picnic Hotel is it. Highly recommended!

This was by far the most beautiful hotel I have ever stayed in. I think this is technically considered “glamping” but el picnic atitlan really puts an emphasis on the GLAM. Gorgeous rooms and facilities with a stunning view of the lake. The room was comfortable and met all of my needs. Exceeded all of my needs really. Gabby and Johann are the most accommodating and generous hosts. Johann personally greeted me upon my late arrival and had a dinner ready for me that catered to my dietary restrictions. And the food- every meal was so delicious!! I was blown away by the quality and flavor of every meal. I felt so recharged in this space, and I would absolutely come back again! Thank you Gabby, Johann and all el picnic staff!!

The lake is amazing and El Picnic Atitlan did not disappoint! Johan and Gabby (and the girls!) were the most amazing and gracious hosts. They helped us with ALL of our transportation needs, cooked amazing meals and were so accommodating and helpful. It was the best glamping experience ever, and they were spot on with lots of dietary restrictions our group had. Breakfast was amazing every morning and dinner was so great too, definitely do it!

There were some sounds at night, but a sleep mask and ear plugs worked wonders!
