Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Kansas City Shawnee

I want other travelers to know exactly what happened to me and my young son at this property on April 18, 2026. I am a Marriott Bonvoy member. I booked my reservation directly through Marriott and completed mobile check-in through the Marriott app the day before my stay. When my son and I arrived at approximately 5:30 PM — after traveling for his youth sports tournament — we were told at the front desk that our reservation had been cancelled. The staff acknowledged plainly that the hotel had overbooked and made the decision to cancel my reservation. They did not dispute it or apologize for it. They just told me I was out. The area was completely sold out due to NASCAR and other events. Rather than helping me find a room, the staff left it entirely to me. I stood at the front desk with my son and searched on my phone. I found a room at the Embassy Suites by Hilton — at more than double my original rate — and booked it myself. Your property offered zero assistance. I asked to speak with the manager. The manager refused to come to the phone. Staff told me I might be eligible for Bonvoy points — no commitment — and to check back on Monday. I was flying home Sunday. Nothing was ever provided. I have sent formal written demands to both the property and Marriott corporate. I will be posting here every day until this is resolved.

Location and distance to the track

The sink in the bathroom backed up. And there was a foul smell like a sewer was backing up outside.

Sorry but elevator sounded like it needed a tune-up, kinda scary. Towel rack was off the wall in bathroom. Rubber mat for shower was nasty looking. Bathroom on lobby floor not available for guests.

Hotel was very clean and I felt safe staying there.

Upon arrival at the Fairfield Inn and Suites in Shawnee, KS, we were impressed with the cleanliness and spaciousness of the hotel. Jennifer was at the Front Desk and assisted us with our check in in a courteous and professional manner. In my opinion, she epitomizes the very best in managerial representation for Marriott. She thoroughly explained the various amenities available, and reviewed the time frames for breakfast and check out. We went to our room and found it to be comfortable and quiet. The big screen tv's were an added plus for network viewing, and the comfort of the bed was second to none. The next morning we enjoyed a very nice breakfast of hot scrambled eggs and sausage with coffee and juices, and a comfortable seating area. We checked out of the hotel with relative ease and certainly gave accolades to Jennfer and her staff---they deserved it!

Elevator not working properly. Alarm went off and slow to open. We reported it but never fixed during our stay

Great breakfast. The ice machine was broke on our floor so had to go to another floor. Electric outlet in the bathroom that didn’t work.
