The Hotel Seiryu Kyoto Kiyomizu - a member of the Leading Hotels of the World-

I loved the library dining room and the breakfast was yummy - we loved the traditional offerings - they were delicious

The restaurants were not as good as eating out in town

I don’t know where to start with praise for this hotel and don’t typically write long reviews. In this case I believe it is beyond justified. I will start with the aesthetic of the property and grounds which are wonderful. The property represents a perfect example of adaptive reuse as the site was once a school. This gives the hotel incredible charm a character that make you feel like you are a part of the community within Kyoto. You are not just staying at some newly built touristy hotel. This also displays what are in fact large grounds creating a private enclave in a very popular section of Gion. Now for the staff. They went above and beyond to answer our every request. I will be honest and say my family was not an easy customer. We have a 14 month old baby and I arrived with a terrible stomach bug, so we were a handful. Everyone at the hotel was so helpful and sincere throughout which is beyond appreciated. I will end with saying that experience at this hotel to me felt like as good as one could dream to experience in Kyoto. The property has the best view in the city at the awesome rooftop bar. The guest lounge is an incredible touch. It is open all day with complementary food and beverage being served along with cultural performances is an incredible perk. Finally the location in Gion makes the most popular part of the city accessible to you by foot. I don’t know the next time I’ll be in Kyoto, but when I return I will unquestionably stay at Hotel Seiryu again. Nothing could’ve been better.

Trata-se de um excelente hotel, com uma estrutura compatível com a categoria a que se propõe, os quartos são amplos, confortáveis, destaco o serviço que sempre nos encanta pela gentileza e cordialidade. Os restaurantes do hotel são geridos por terceiros, testamos apenas o do rooftop que tem uma vista privilegiada para a Pagoda, e foi uma ótima experiência.

Talvez a única coisa que eu não tenha gostado foi a decoração de natal, ver aquela árvore de natal em tons de azul "brigando" com a beleza da fachada restaurada me trouxe certo incômodo. Fora esse detalhe, pontuo também o café da manhã, que mesmo excelente, limita o pedido dos pratos quentes a uma única escolha.

Fabulous location in heart of Gion close to the main temples. A very special location and property. Rooms of good size, super comfortable and well equipped. Lounge is a real benefit and staff there super helpful and accommodating of all. Also events put on for guests. Check out was a good experience with a super helpful staff member; breakfast box was good!

The restaurants - required booking well in advance. This even included breakfast on one day (was over new year holiday). We therefore missed out on the sushi restaurant. Benoit - food was mixed and we didn’t feel very welcome (comparing to eating at another Gion hotel restaurant where we were warmly welcomed as walk-ins!). Paying an 11,000 yen cover charge to sit and eat in the largely empty indoor bar area as residents felt over the top. Bar menu also limited. Steak was good though. All these things could have been made clear in advance or at check in but weren’t.
