Sand Bar Cottage Inn

What a fabulous place that lives up to the great reviews. The location is amazing, the rooms lovely and the history a delight to be a small part of. Chris is the consummate host, other managers/Inn Keepers should visit and spend time here seeing how it’s done, the rest of the staff lovely, shout out especially to Vitoria who was very engaging with myself and my wife. Lovely breakfast which was so well presented, sorry I didn’t say Hi chef but great job, as was the afternoon cake/cookies.

The location was excellent. Close to town although off the beaten path of tourists and traffic. Lovely public spaces and good parking availability.

I couldn’t figure out how to use the television. 2 remotes and no luck. I am not a techie by any means.

Central but secluded location without heavy tourists, beautiful grounds, staff is very friendly and offers advice for local experiences! Food was excellent and Cottage 11 was amazing!

My wife and I decided to try something NEW FOR US and rolled into Bar Harbor with no hotel reservations. We stopped by the tourist information office and indirectly they guided us to the Sand Bar Cottage. It was heaven sent. The inn is amazing and immediately felt like home. The staff was attentive without being intrusive. And the proprietor Chris was exactly what we needed. This IS NOT the Holiday Inn. If your thing is checking in to room 431 and being invisible, stay somewhere else. Here both staff and guest alike will say good morning. Here you can sit with a drink and listen to live music in the evening. Here you can have a cup of coffee on a wrap-around porch and catch your breath. Thank you to the Sand Bar Cottage, you were exactly what we wanted and needed.

This was part of a larger trip. There are not many options for staying in Bar Harbor. Most are these old victorian houses. The person who greeted us was not welcoming. The room was very basic, a bit like staying in a Motel 6. Nothing hospitable about the property. The cleaning person sat outside of our room (6ft away), waiting for us to check out on the day we left so that she could clean the second we left the room. When I went to give my key back, the woman (who has entertaining personal friends at the front desk for coffee) asked me how everything was. When I said, 'Umm, it was okay'. Hoping this would open conversation, she said 'okay, I'll take your key, bye'. She went back to conversation again with friends. I had to interrupt their conversation to ask for a milk alternative when grabbing to go coffee on the way out. She seemed perturbed. Not sure there is much to offer in Bar Harbor for nice places, however, this place at over $600 a night was awful. How embarrassing for these properties that they are overcharging their guests in these tourist like areas while delivering a sub par stay.

Great place

We can't recommend this place enough. From our late night arrival (where Chris met us with snacks and a smile) to the time we left, the staff and stay were both 10/10. The room was amazing and the bed was like sleeping on a cloud. Each morning, fresh breakfast was available and absolutely delicious and there were afternoon snacks and tea as well. It is located within walking distance to anywhere downtown in Bar Harbor and had a quaint garden with tables we sat in just to enjoy the weather and atmosphere. We felt like royalty the entire time we stayed. Highly recommend staying here if you are visiting Bar Harbor. We will definitely stay here anytime we come back.
