With its distinctive bow fronted aspect and associations with Thomas Hardy, The KIngs Arms has always been an iconic part of the Dorchester scene. I was a boarder at Hardy's School for seven years in the 1960's and so it was brilliant to be able to combine the annual reunion with a night in the hotel. It did not disappoint from the car park (important!) right through to check out. The room was classily equipped, including Roberts radio, the bed was comfortable and anyone ever designing a hotel bathroom should take a look at the shower which, like some, had no complicated operation but just two simple controls. Had a lovely fish sandwich lunch and a splendid breakfast. I was hoping for Palmers ales, as that is a nice Dorset brewery, but hey...the Butcombes was OK. Will be back.

Beautiful building, lovingly restored with a great vibe. Wonderful room with nice little touches, fresh milk in the fridge etc Great value and fabulous and generous breakfast.

Our snug room was nicely furnished and decorated. There was enough room for a one night stay. The bar was friendly and comfortable. The breakfast the following morning was really nice, lots of staff were available. When I checked out I was delighted when the receptionist said there would be no charge for the 2 bottles of sparkling water I had opened in error for ourselves in the room instead of the mineral water which was provided free. However, the next say I saw I had been charged on my credit card. The amount is immaterial but the gesture had been made but then not actioned. Otherwise I would have given 5 stars.

This hotel is full of character and retains much of its grandeur of years gone by. The room was well appointed with a very comfortable bed. The bathroom was very well appointed with an excellent shower and hot water that came out of the taps as soon as you turned them on. Super food with menus that are pleasantly a little bit different. Excellent value. Only negative comment was that there could be a bit more shelf space and hanging space in the bedroom we had.
