The Thoresby at Claremont Apartments

Loved the location and the apartment. Friendly staff who we managed to bump into. Everything that you needed was there.

Slightly dated and worn in parts. Lovely stay and would for sure book again

The place is spacious and beautiful, both within the room and around the building. It was comfortable and cosy, and I really appreciate the free teas, coffees and biscuits.

Sadly I was appalled see some dubious stains on both the bed runner/scarf (that horrifyingly looks like food or vomit stains), and on a towel. I didn't see a single staff, and reception was unmanned. It's essentially an airbnb. Sound proofing was not ideal - both nights I was there I could hear people talking right outside the building at the parking spots at 1am very clearly. Two twin beds pushed together can hardly be considered a extra-large double bed - it was uncomfortable to sleep on so I essentially had to sleep on just one side of the bed. A promised luxury that was not delivered. It was not particularly near the city centre, or any decently sized supermarket/grocer. I guess a redeeming factor would be its proximity to the Leeds University (and this is more of a personal opinion since I was there for Uni-related work). Faulty facilities: bedside table, lighting in the toilet (shower area was dark), the shower head holder was loose and broke on me. Less than desirable facilities: kettle was a little dirty, a very weak hairdryer, Would be good to have: notepad and pen at the work desk The free toiletries were just the soaps and a shower cap. Not a negative point, just something to note. Finally, it didn't help that the address on Google maps was not mapped right and was a pain to find while walking around uphill.

Clean and tidy, good parking and only short walk into city centre. Comfortable bed and spacious rooms.

Not enough toilet roll provided, only 1 tea bag provided and hot water for shower doesn’t last very long. Also one of the sofas was broken when we arrived.

Bed is 2 singles pushed together not a king like it looks like on the pictures. Maintenance was not really up to scratch, lights in bathroom, one hanging down, one failed, bed side light not working, chest of drawers not great, sofa base actually broken.

The location was good and the water was hot.

On arrival it was pretty obvious the apartment had not been cleaned. Windows were closed and the apartment smelt strongly and unpleasantly of fried breakfast. The bins were full, work surfaces dirty and the floor had crumbs. The dishwasher still had pots in it. The bed was only half made although thankfully a clean duvet cover had been left, so we finished making it ourselves. There was no toilet roll but fortunately friends in another apartment were able to give us their spare roll. I phoned the housekeeping number given to report our concerns about the state of the property and left an answer phone message but nobody got back to us at all during the two nights we stayed. The floor lamp had 2 out of the 3 bulbs not working, the bedside lamp did not work, there was a toenail clipping on the shower room floor and the towels were damp on arrival and smelt unpleasantly. One of the sofas in the lounge was broken, so sitting on it involved a 'slide' into the middle. If you are going to make a feature of huge clocks on the wall then at least have them working and showing the correct time! These apartments are billed as being serviced but there was no evidence of this and the overall impression was of neglect and the bare minimum being done. I also do not believe it is still really acceptable to use Covid as a reason to make your guests strip the beds on leaving, when no other measures are in place and basic cleaning has not been undertaken! I do not like leaving negative reviews and I did try to make contact to address the issues but really feel I have no option in this case than to honestly report our experience.

Beautiful apartment, very clean and comfortable.

The property was in a great location. it was very clean & had an amazing feel to it. Communication was amazing.

Nothing to dislike. Maybe softer lighting/dimmer switches in the living room.
