Island View Hotel Bar Harbor

The person working in the office was really a delight to speak to. The room was clean and the beds were nice. The condition of the room probably could use some attention, but it was balanced by the price compared to the other options in the area.

Nice water front view from room, clean, comfortable bed. Not a lot of amenities and not new. If you're an independent traveler who just wants a good place to stay away from the crowds, this is a great option.

Good location

I am reviewing this property, although we didn't end up staying there. When we got into our room, my sister noticed the bathroom sink was filthy! Something had backed up into it. I called David (at the front desk), and he came down immediately. After checking with his boss, it was determined we could move to another hotel - Harborview Hotel, Spa & Marina (uh - YES) or David could clean the sink and hope it wouldn't back up again. Yeah - we packed up and moved! LOL! From the little we did see - I'm sure this would be a fine place to stay, and I'm sure there was an inspection of the room before our arrival, and at the time, the backup wasn't visible. Just be aware that this hotel is a few miles from downtown Bar Harbor (7 or 8) and you will have to find parking once you get to downtown. During the peak season, that is VERY hard to do (it's $2 - $6 an hour). It took us almost an hour to find parking (metered) the first day we drove down. Once we moved to the Harborside, we didn't need to find parking, because we were parked at the hotel, which is in downtown Bar Harbor. No doubt we lucked out in being moved to another hotel! I give the property kudos for recognizing a problem, and fixing it right away! Also keep in mind - this hotel is a portion of the cost of those downtown. I also feel there should be more than one person at the property helping w/ check-ins and dealing w/ any issues. David was inundated with calls while we were there, but he did GREAT!

You get what you pay for. The place definitely would benefit from a few upgrades. It was clean though, which is most important.

The view of the water at the rear of the property is beautiful. Sunset and sunrise are gorgeous. The accommodations are simple but our room was clean and everyone who worked there was incredibly nice

The hotel is in a perfect location - close to Ellsworth and Bar Harbor. The water view was really nice! In the hotel room it was clean but it smelled like moth balls, the bathroom fan did not work, and the mattress needed to be updated. You sank into the mattress but not in a comfortable way. The price reflects the quality. With some improvements this place could be phenomenal!

My partner and i had a very nice stay here. Great views from the hotel, everything was very clean. Only complaint would be is there were no garbage bags in the trash cans in the room. Save a grocery bag for your garbage if you plan to snack in your room.
