The facilities were great. Loved our days in the water. Great little beach club. My massage was amazing. The sweetest lady. Cute cabins to stay in Location was great. 20 minute walk to restaurants and stores.

Bathroom not its own room. Toilet right behind bed. No privacy

"Go there for day use - don't pay to stay in the accommodation"

4.0

The setting and beach club facility was pretty however on the weekend it was full of young people just trying to get the posing shots. We seemed to be the only couple wanting to swim and have fun in the water. Monday was completely opposite and was totally quiet. The rooms are very secure with a highly sophisticated key card system.

We were extremely disappointed with our stay. I booked this initially as more of a "luxury stay" for my partners birthday however for the price point I absolutely wouldn't recommend this place. Room and deck seemed run down and staff quite rude. We weren't told anything about the facilities at check-in but it turns out the bar and restaurant on site doesn't open until 1pm so we were unable to get any food or drink in the morning. Luckily we had some water with us because the only bottle that was provided we had used to fill the coffee machine. My partner went in search of a coffee in the morning because our coffee machine in the room didn't work (mentioned to the girl on the desk but nothing got done about it) but because of the location being so far out of town there was nothing easily accessible and after 10 minutes of walking around he finally found a hotel that allowed him to buy a coffee there. There are no staff working after 9pm and until 9am which means there's no one to ask questions to (like where to buy food, coffee or water - or for any extras needed) and we were only provided with half a toilet roll so when that ran out we had to go and take sheets out of the common area toilet. We're not fussy people and are totally okay living with basic (we stayed in a no AC, no running water beach hut before moving to this place) but when you pay this sort of price you except a certain level of service and standard that we just didn't receive. Some useful info to note on the rooms (we stayed in Fuscia) - the outside terrace is shared with the next door room with only a planter to separate you. There is no drawers or wardrobe in the room (wasn't an issue for 2 nights but any more than that I like to be able to unpack!).

The incredible location of El Búho almost makes up for its shortcomings. Great lounge areas on the grounds and really versatile dock on the lagoon with breathtaking views. Without a doubt, the highlight of El Búho. Some advice, take the hour kayak rental over breakfast as the options are bland and boring. You can kayak to some really beautiful spots first in the morning, then get a real breakfast in town. The restaurant does have good (Italian) food for lunch/dinner and plenty of drink options. All the staff, from the hotel to the restaurant, were very friendly and helpful. Expect to be charged for everything extra (management).

Loud inescapable pop/edm music is played from speakers in every corner of the property from noon to 8pm. This degree of audible stimulus will transform any experience, so prepare yourself for top 40s dance hit to drown out any sounds of birds and waves. Be advised: the A-frame rooms do not have any bathroom separation. As absurd as it sounds, you practically use the toilet for a bedside table. Zero privacy. Also, the hot water never arrived. We would not stay there again.

"I can understand why this was well reviewed ion trip advisor"

2.0

It had wifi and was in Bacalar

Honestly I left a review on trip advisor too. I got into town a day early so I tried out another hotel in town on the water for half the price. If they’d had space I’d have gone back there even with the non refundable room fee because the difference was so big. The breakfast was halfassed The bedroom was live laugh love by Lisa Frank with institutional lighting and a weird entry exist system with a bed that made noise and moved all night Despite my telling them in both Spanish ms English in writing and in person it was my birthday during the 3 night stay they didn’t care enough to wish me a happy birthday This is my least favourite place I’ve stayed of my so far three weeks in Mexico

"Directly at the lagoon, nice place but the Hotel is not nice."

4.0

Nice location directly on the lagoon with seating areas at the lagoon plus some swings and hammocks over the lagoon. Kayak rental for guests free of charge.

The Rooms interior is very simple, very limited place for clothes, backpack etc. Furthermore the rooms are not really nice and comfortable. The Wifi connection in the Room is very bad, it works only on some position with very bad performance. They advertise that there is a restaurant which is open every day till 9pm. When I'm arrived at 8pm it was already closed for food. The next Days the Restaurant and Bar just closed, probably because of not so nice weather. However it is not nice when it is advertised and you are not able to get any drinks when you are relaxing at the lagoon. Furthermore they forbid to being own drinks to the room which is from my perspective unacceptable. Very bad price/performance ratio..

Location

Terrible service, no WiFi. We were badly welcomed, The staff was rude and incompetent We had to pay twice for a tab because they forgot we “paid” directly the night before and wouldn’t let us go The “included” courtesy breakfast starts from 9 to 11 but at 9.30 they already ran out of half of the buffet We couldn’t leave our luggage at the reception after check in We paid our room 200€ the night but couldn’t enjoy the beds of the sundeck neither kayak/paddle, you had to pay for this!!!

"Hotel price for hostel stay"

3.0

Decent location

This property is not as advertised. While it’s on the beach, the property owners treat the hotel, like a hostel. In the name of environment, charged extra for towels- not even providing hand towels. At breakfast each person was limit to a price of bread and a box of cereal. No where was this disclosed in the property description.

"Great location! Poor management"

8.0

The deck and the lake view rooms are really nice

I have stayed in several other properties in Bacalar and they include their kayaks in your stay, here they don’t. I mean we paid 10k pesos for 2 nights and having them said you have to pay for kayaks it’s just too cheap . Breakfast is included BUT only one piece of bread per person (what?) And what really left a bad taste is that we checked out at 12, wanted to stay 2 more hours, eat at their restaurant and leave, and they made us pay a day pass to stay that extra time. Ridiculous! Also we are from Argentina and drink mate, so occasionally we would ask if they could give us hot water, they did twice the first day. The second day they told us “they didnt have water” but the restaurant was functioning no problem. Also the deck needs some love. It’s a really nice amenity but it’s looking worn and torn . Overall it’s a good location. But for the price you pay for the nights, having to constantly pay for something extra is just stupid. Even in camping sites the kayaks are included! Again, I have stayed in several other properties and I probably won’t stay here again because of that mentality
