Boutique Hotel EL NIDO Holbox

Property was very pretty, very close to beautiful Punta Cocos. Staff was excellent and very charming. About 30 min outside of town altho very easy to walk or take taxi. Beware there will be puddles if taking taxi, just a special part of Holbox.

Breakfast was nice - set things such as coffee, juice and yogurt included. Anything cooked (eggs) was additional 100 pesos. The room itself was stunning as was the pool for pure relaxation - we only stayed 1 night but wish we had stayed more!

There could have been a service at the pool for drinks

-The owner or staff there was a guy and he was weird (cuckoo) singing suddenly control freak -The breakfast was only fruit/yogurt and he brought menu and he didn’t even mentioned that they re not included and the food was not good at all he only accept cash?!? -I did not liked his behavior as ıf he is making favor for us that opened his house to a strangers

Es un lugar perfecto para desconectarse, la playa está a 5 minutos caminando muy privada y linda, está lejos del centro, así que si quieres unos días de paz y silencio es el lugar ideal :)

Relaxing by the pool and the size of the room

The breakfast included is only a yogurt and fruits and it is not served before 8am. There is no coffee machine is the room and it is not possible to get a coffee before 8am.

Lovely modern boutique hotel with very friendly staff. The location was a little remote, about 30min walk to the central part of Holbox. The room was spacious but we could hear our neighbours at night... The breakfast was small - additional items (avo toast, espresso etc) were charged extra.

1. Theft on Hotel Premises
Our experience at this hotel was extremely disappointing. We were robbed on the hotel premises. The incident likely happened while we were at breakfast or by the pool. According to the hotel, rooms are cleaned every three days, and since our room had been cleaned the previous day, we weren’t expecting anyone to enter. However, almost €200 disappeared from my wallet. What made the situation worse was the staff’s attitude. They were completely unprofessional, unhelpful, and dismissive. No one took responsibility, and we received no assurance that the issue would be addressed. This left us feeling unsafe and uncomfortable, so we decided to leave the hotel the following morning. As a result, we lost our money, two nights of our stay, and had to book new accommodation elsewhere. It’s also worth mentioning that the hotel only accepts cash payments, which came as an unpleasant surprise and made the theft even more impactful. 2. Environmental Concerns on Holbox Island
I want to point out a serious issue for anyone planning to visit Holbox. The island has only one sewage treatment plant, which handles just 20-30% of the island’s waste. The rest of the wastewater ends up in the beautiful blue ocean or is used as fertilizer for plants. Judging by the state of the ground behind the hotel and the strong smell we noticed every morning from our back-facing window, it seems that the hotel’s sewage is dumped directly behind the property. The nearby beach also had an unpleasant smell and murky water, likely due to untreated wastewater.

The hotel’s decor is stunning, featuring unique nest-shaped light fixtures, thoughtfully curated found objects, and relaxing music that enhances the ambiance. The property itself is beautiful, tastefully designed, and offers a sense of privacy. Its location is ideal, just a 5-minute walk to the beach and 10 minutes from a prime spot to watch the sunset. We thoroughly enjoyed the pool and hammocks, which added to the overall tranquility. While the hotel lacks a hot tub, it would be an amazing addition if the owner is considering upgrades! We dined at the hotel for both dinner and breakfast, and the meals were of high quality and reasonably priced. A note for future guests: bring cash (Mexican pesos, US dollars, or euros) in various denominations, including small and large bills. Despite being a cash-only property, the hotel often doesn’t have change available for transactions or the ability to exchange USD for pesos. While this is a bit inconvenient, it’s worth being prepared. That said, this observation doesn’t detract from the overall experience or our rating—it’s simply a friendly tip for fellow travelers.
