La Maison Pondichéry

The hotel is under construction and does not have rooms to stay in. I communicated with the hotel before arriving about early check in and when I arrived it was a construction site and did not have rooms available. This listing should be taken off of booking.com. I did check the hotel website and the pop up about the construction and hotel closure did not appear until the day arrived. Do not book this hotel until after they reopen.

Property was safe and was decent. Room was clean, nothing really fancy for the price though. Breakfast is on the house and was reasonably good. Staff were helpful.

Street noise - the property is located on a busy street and you can hear the noise on the street: people and traffic.

very bad address, to be avoided. The rooms do not correspond to the photos, no sheets, a ridiculous and frankly bad breakfast (I live in India and I know the standards). Much too expensive for the poor quality service.

Nothing, it's one of the worst places we have ever stayed at.

I stayed at this place with my wife and 2 year old child and it was one of the worst experiences we have ever had traveling. Here is a summary: 1. Misleading Advertisements: The hotel falsely claims to be a beachfront property, which is untrue. Most of the photos displayed here on booking.com are deceptive/ taken from other hotels and do not reflect the actual state of the property. Positive reviews appear to be fabricated to mislead potential customers. 2. Substandard Facilities: The hot water system is outdated and insufficient for use. Rooms are dark, old , bathroom has mold, no water in sink and no toilet paper. Rooms are poorly maintained, with no provisions to block outdoor lights at night. Noise levels are excessive, making it difficult to rest. 3. Unethical Practices: The hotel demands full payment upon arrival and they try to pressure you to pay in advance, limiting guests' options if the premises do not meet expectations. Staff insist on entering guest rooms daily without reasonable justification, invading privacy. 4. Subpar Services: The breakfast provided is worth no more than 50-100 INR and is far below the promised standards. It's unhygienic in the kitchen and there is no service provided. The price charged for the stay is exorbitant for the quality of services, which should not exceed 3,000 INR. 5. Unsafe Environment: A staff member (or individual associated with the hotel) sleeps on the steps with a sword, creating discomfort and a sense of insecurity for guests. There is no security at all at the hotel. Electric outlet is broken which is dangerous. Mold in the bathroom is unhealthy from customers. Impact of the Issues We were forced to leave a day early due to the unacceptable conditions. Other guests, both Indian and foreign, also expressed similar dissatisfaction during our stay, suggesting this is a systemic issue.

Location is excellent. A stone’s throw away from everything you’d want to see. Apart from the location and the hospitality of the staff, everything else felt below average.

The bathroom, shower area, electric sockets etc. are not maintained and barely work. Supplies like shampoo, water, coffee and tea sachets were not replenished on a daily basis, not even after room cleaning. The balcony has no way of enjoying it, given a lack of furniture, even something basic. Overall, for this price, we expected better services.

Heritage building, decent sized rooms.

AVOID! Noise (it’s noisy 6am -11pm due to being on a major road (car horns, vendors playing loud music etc) dirty, shortage of clean towels (told to wait for 2 days for clean towel) staff asking for tips even before check-in. 40 minute waits for coffee at breakfast times. Too many issues to list, please avoid.

The location is very good to see things

The noise from the road outside is tremendous and well into the early hours. No TV or safe in the room ..no plug in the sink . Breakfast staff were nice was difficult .to communicate with . Breakfast was just ok . No European option. The hotel is in need of tlc . Air con worked really well. ..take ear plugs if you intend to stay here .

The location was the best thing. White town, the beach were all in walkable distance.

The hotel does not look at all like the pictures. It's a blink-and-u-miss-it kinda place. No windows in the ground floor rooms. No terrace for chilling (it's blocked off by their own restaurant). Just good enough to cm and sleep after the whole day.

This hotel was probably the best in terms of aesthetics and location. However, the older security guard was a bit pushy about wanting tips, even when I was desperate to use the bathroom. He insisted I go to reception first—calm down! The place was amazing to look at, and the cleanliness was top-notch.

The only downside was the cold showers—both mornings, I had cold showers. I’m not sure if it was due to the timing or if I was doing something wrong.
