Firstly, the pictures dont do enoughjustice to the actual beauty of this big estate. It is absolutely magnificent, surrounded by the hills and lush green. Ricardo and family's warmth made us feel as if we had come to vacation to our own family. Even after staying in a five star hotel after this stay, the kids felt Serena’s experience was better. Amazing rooms, amazing views and the best part is the pool. The kitchen is always open to you and Ricardo somehow just appears and is always there to dish out a cocktail or a snack or a dish. They even ordered meal from outside and brought it in for us bc we could not communicate with local restaurants in spanish. The instructions they send are very accurate. You do need a 4x4 else you will get stuck getting in or out because of a very steep climb into the property but incase you do, don’t worry as Ricardo will be there day or night to help you out. If you want yo truly relax, go here without any hesitation . We are definitely coming back. Thank you to Ricardo and family for giving us an awesome experience

"For safety do not go. The pictures are filtered to pose as a romantic getaway. All the amenities shown are unsafe to use"

2.0

I booked from 1/20-1/24 and had to live on the 20th within an hour. This place is unsafe to stay in as a retreat and you are more likely to leave the compound and spend close to $300-500 daily on Uber and Food. The amenities do not work or are unsafe.

You can still see the luxury and opulence that this mountain estate once represented. We felt it everywhere for the week we stayed. But it was the management that made us feel most special. Ricardo and his family took us in and showed us a type of hospitality that we can only describe as gracious. We were invited to dinners on the rooftop patio, breakfast was always generous, the pool and hot tub were activated on our request and moreover we felt at home in this peaceful tropical retreat. Thank you, Ricardo and Grace.

"It was like being in a movie, though not a good one"

4.0

Oh boy, where to start.... It was like being in a movie, not a good one. First of all, I would like to say that Ricardo, his wife, daughter and son-in-law are very nice and I think they're doing the best they can in the situation they find themself. They did make breakfast each morning and were very attentive. I booked this hacienda through American Express as the second half of our Vieques/ Puerto Rico vacation. We'd already spent a very nice time on Vieques in the middle of their largest town and wanted to spend the second half of our vacation in the mountains of Puerto Rico to enjoy some peace and quiet. The website and reviews showed this property to be a beautiful luxury retreat. Unfortunately, the reviews and website were wildly disingenuous. The property has been rotting in the jungle for the past couple decades with little to no upkeep or maintenance. We were given a tour of the property and it was one shock to the next. We were told, stay away from the vegetation over there it's pulled the electrical wires down and could electrocute you to death. Stay away from the balcony over there it's unsafe and you could fall. Stay away from this part of the stairs because branches might fall off this tree and hurt you. There were multiple broken down cars scattered throughout the property. Several sections cordoned off because the concrete and tile were so broken up it was dangerous to walk there. Piles of detritus in many corners of the house. I could go on about the conditions but there's not enough time and space. Please look at the attached photos. I will say, our rooms were clean. In the three nights we were there I saw one millipede and one Beetle. Our first room. For the three of us, my sister, my niece and myself had two queen size mattresses on the floor and a small single bed out of a love seat size hide-a bed. This would have been okay. We were tired and we're only going to be there three nights. Unfortunately there was no hot water and the toilet didn't work. Neither of which had been fixed by morning. I told Ricardo that if we were going to stay we needed a room with a working toilet and hot water. He was very understanding and switched rooms for us. We did indeed get a room with hot water and a working toilet though we no longer had cold water, or internet access. According to Ricardo he and his family are not the owners they have been hired to take care of guests and fix up the property I have worked construction trades in Colorado for nearly 30 years including very high end remodeling projects. In my opinion this property would need a minimum of 2.5 million invested and 1.5 years of full-time work just to be brought up to par. It would then need a staff of 6 to 10 people working full-time to maintain it and take care of guests. I will be contacting American Express to let them know the situation. This was a really disappointing end to what had been a lovely vacation.

Hacienda was great. The whole island was without power when we arrived, so we were in good hands in survival-mode with Ricardo and Glory. But the island in darkness, and the view from the Hacienda was fantastic for festivities and the joy of Nature!
