Cooktown Motel

This property has the feel of a hostel but it is clean and has a camp kitchen which is extensively equipped. Initially we had an issue with keys fitting doirs and room not made up. The host imnediately upgraded us, with apology, to a room with an ensuite and fully equipped kitchen. The facility to cook food via the camp kitchen or in room is one we valued as the food choices in town were expensie and not to our taste. The bathrooms were well stocked with soaps, shampoos and body wash normally expected with higher cost hotels. The beds were very comfortable. The staff were amicable and helpful at all times. I would stay again.

Facilities were good. There was an indigenous sporting fixture, so the motel was very busy. Everyone was friendly. The pool was set away from where we stayed. Children were having a great time in the water. Loved being able to use the laundry.

Clean accommodation and good condition especially the bathroom which was quite new. Receptionist was friendly and helpful

My room - 12 - was next to a communal seating area where people sat and talked right outside my door/window and they are not well sound insulated. Really there is no need to have this seating area here - it's a big enough space to move it somewhere less annoying Main gripe was the price. This is clean but it's a basic motel but charged at double the price it's really worth. Mainly due to exploiting the low supply of rooms in the town. Next time I'd pay 20% more and go closer into town at higher grade establishment I like walking so didn't mind the distance but it's a 20+ minute walk into the bars and restaurants and 10 mins to the supermarket. I think there are some shuttle buses though

Carparking is difficult when motel is full. Good for an overnight stay.

It was locked at night. The receptionist was friendly on check in. The shower pressure was great and towels etc were provided. The room and bathroom were clean.

It's a typical low budget motel but at a high cost. The price was, in my opinion, a third higher than I'd expect to pay for somewhere like this. It's on the shabby side and has a depressing atmosphere. The rooms were functional but the bed uncomfortable - very soft. There are no bedside lights - just one fluorescent light in the room. There is a pool but it's more like a jungle pond. There is parking but if you're unlucky, you'll have to park on the street. As the rooms are small and packed closely together, you can hear your neighbours very clearly at night. The wifi was inconsistent and often only connected without internet access.
