"Good location, friendly staff, lacked some basic amenities"

6.0

Good location near St Anne's cathedral and writers square.

The bed was very soft, and sagged in the middle, so my husband and I had to cling on to the edges all night. The bed is in an alcove to save space, which for a couple means one of you has to climb over the other in the night if you need the loo! Once you get to the loo, the light and fan turn on automatically when you enter, so if your partner didn't wake up with you climbing over them, they will when the light and fan come on. There were no cups on arrival, so we asked at reception for some, but because it's not a normal hotel, housekeeping were not available, and reception didn't have access to the cups. We left a note in the room about cups, but didn't realise the room was not cleaned during the visit - this is fine, as places like Travelodge don't do this either, but it would have been good to know. On the 3rd day, I went down first thing for cups - BUT housekeeping don't arrive till after 10.00! Reception said they would ask for them to be dropped off, and asked if we needed anything else. Actually, more shower gel would be good - they supplied 2 small individual tubes on arrival, which is fine if the room is changed everyday, but will not last 4 days. But when we got back that evening, no cups and no shower gel. To be fair, they did give us some disposable cups, but its not the same. Because there is no housekeeping, while you are given a kettle and a couple of little milks (should you want to make a cuppa in your imaginary cup), again this only allows you one hot drink each. I didn't actually ask at reception for more milks, but I doubt they would have them if they couldn't access cups and shower gel. Not a problem as we just bought a pint of milk to keep in the fridge, and had bought our own tea/coffee, but be warned. Also, there is no TV in the room. To be fair, the 'facilities' noted on the booking.com write up does not include a TV, but we never checked as a TV is standard. Not here.
