The Van Zant House

It felt like we were living in the 1970's again. We loved the vibe and especially the history. It's definitely a living museum.

The neighborhood worried us at first but everything was fine.

The location was great for us because we were visiting the horse show at the Equine centre and some friends near Jax beaches. Parking was good, wi-fi was good when it worked but it went out a couple of times

We booked this because it was cheap - and we thought quirky to stay in the house that Ronnie Van Zant grew up in. We had booked the studio apartment and were told we were 'upgraded' to the Annexe. Not sure what upgrade means here other than bigger. We get why the furnishings looked like they were the originals, for the authentic feel, but the place was dirty. We don't mind cheap but it should be clean. The sofa was disgusting - covered in questionable stains. We had our own blankets and put them over the sofa. My husband pulled back the sofa to tuck the blankets in and said behind the sofa looked like it had never been cleaned. The bath kept not draining - I agitated the water and a ton of small dark hairs came out of the plug hole. Neither of us has short dark hair. The bed sheets were cheap too. The place needs a very deep clean from top to bottom.

Nothing I didn’t like

It was the worse trip we have ever had. The picture and advertisement showed the whole Van Zant House. Once we paid the Un reimbursement for 2 nights, we were informed that is was just the annex. We could not go into Sister's Kitchen. We did not have access to the living room with the beautiful fireplace. We did not have access to the pool table room and guitars .....and everything else that we thought we had access to with the whole house. We did not have access to the areas of the pictures below. Property manager is refusing to refund money. Plus, we had no heat in the Annex. The next day he states that there were 4 ceramic heaters in the house. What the hell is that and where were they? It was to get down into the 40s at night and we were expected to stay with no heat. The one device that did show heat did not work. We literally had to turn on the stove to try and warm up the place while we were trying to get a hold of the property manager (directly and through here). The whole weekend was ruined for my Valentines present for my husband. Will truly be a great memory for my husband who is a huge Lynyrd Skynryd fan! Yes...that is very sarcastic! Was the worse experience we have managed to get through.

I love the historic of the property. It was a great place to take my son for his 11th birthday. He absolutely loves music, and he absolutely loved the band after learning about them upon entering the house.

Fleas or bug ate us for the hour that we stayed there.
