Chogogo Dive & Beach Resort Bonaire

I had a lovely stay at Hotel Chogogo! The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was comfortable and well-kept, and the lazy river was a real highlight. Loved the balcony with oceanview too! Scuba do is nice for diving and super nice and friendly staff! Although there are not many possibilities to hop on a boat (or go by car) to go to a divesite to dive, if you are diving by yourself. For non-smokers an important note: There are no smoke-free zones in the hotel. There are lots of smokers on the beach, in the restaurant area, in front of the reception and (although it is not allowed) on the balconies of the hotel too. So I did one important suggestion: please create and enforce smoke-free zones, to get some clean air on your property. That would make a big difference for non-smoking visitors’ comfort and health.

Minder geschikt voor Non-smokers. Op het strand wordt gerookt en je ligt met de ligbedjes vrij dicht bij elkaar, dus daar heb je last van. In de restaurants mag ook worden gerookt. Voor de receptie is een rook area. En in de kamers en op het balkon van de kamers mag niet gerookt worden, maar dat wordt (door sommige gasten) op het balkon wel gedaan. Op het balkon van je eigen kamer kan je dus ook in de rooklucht zitten. Echt niet fijn. En niet meer van deze tijd.

Very nice resort with a lazy river for tubing. Friendly staff and front desk staff was exceptional. Room and balcony was nicely equipped.

Very overrated property. Management and staff in the main friendly but need serious customer service training. * No bottled water available. * Room cleaned every 3 days * Room condition poor. Floor dirty. Walls grubby. Fittings damaged. Furniture cheap and inadequate * Sat down for breakfast and waitress told us that next day we must go to hostess desk first as we had made her walk all the way to our table and back again (10 metres). 'Good Morning' would have been a better greeting. * No beer on tap. Bottled selection frequently out of stock * Beer not cold at beach bar some days. Not restocking * Have to take room towels to reception to change * On cleaning day no towels, toilet paper, soap left in room. We were told we could pick up at reception.

I Loved staying at Chogogo! What a great resort. The staff was the best and made my stay even better. It is located at a great spot and I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Husband and I stayed for 9 days in November to gain more dive experience. We completed PADI Advanced Open Water and Deep Diver certification with Scuba Do dive shop at the resort (great experience, reviewed separately). Our room was in building 7 on the 1st floor (ground floor is 0). We had a partial ocean view from our balcony since we were on the end. I loved that a clothes rack was provided and helped dry our wet things quickly. The bed was made with only a thin sheet and two small pillows so bring your own if you prefer more. All our meals were at the resort with breakfast being included. The menu was the same for the Sunset and Bari restaurants so we favored Bari for lunch/dinner due to the proximity to the beach. We went to the more upscale Bina restaurant for one night which was...different. The rental vehicle provided with the Dive/Drive package was very new and worked well for our needs, which was mostly diving. There were plenty of chairs/loungers on the beach although it did get a little busy on days when cruise ships were visiting the island. There were a few naughty children throwing rocks/coral into the lazy river. The beach, like most beaches on Bonaire, is rocky but the waters were calm even with gusty 36mph winds. The Bari Reef is directly in front of the resort and is a great dive site for learning. We even saw a seahorse by the sunken boat on the south end of the resort. Overall, we enjoyed our first stay in Bonaire and will most likely return.

Overall great experience. Rooms are clean and spacious. The property itself is well maintained and in a great location. Food on the property was also fresh.
