"Relaxed Vibe, but Some Details Missed"

6.0

We loved the relaxed atmosphere and the location—just a short walk to the beach and close to great shops and restaurants. The staff was friendly and helpful, and our room was spacious, quiet, and comfortable. However, a few things didn’t quite meet expectations. The room we booked didn’t actually have the promised pool view, and the clothing-optional aspect wasn’t as advertised. Housekeeping and breakfast were a bit inconsistent, and there was some confusion around the happy hour. Overall, a pleasant stay, but a little more attention to detail and clearer communication would have made it even better.

The Grand merged with neighboring properties and now has a different vibe as before. Been staying there 15 years and will not go back. Resort fee and they offer day passes and have loud music all the time. Sadly the property has transformed into a circuit party scene which was never the charm I wanted. Staff not friendly and did not like non guests having access to pools which where full of day people.

"Priorities"

6.0

In June of 2024, I left a review here titled "Definitely Returning," and ranked the visit a 5.0. Last week, we finally made it back. I'm not sure if there has been a change in management or ownership since last June, but our experience was markedly different this time around. When checking in, one of my friends joked with me about needing a sugar daddy. The employee behind the counter chimed in, and said that for my friend to have a sugar daddy, the guy would have to be at least a hundred years old - we brushed it off, finished checking in, and went on our way. The through line of our stay was "deferred maintenance." For reference, we stayed on the third floor of the Villa Venice overlooking the pool area (our initial visit was at The Alcazar). After moving the car to the Villa Venice parking area on Terramar St, we discovered the access gate was out of service. No big deal, we walked our stuff down to the nearest gate (at the Alcazar) and made our way to the Venice's elevator... which we discovered was out of order as well. So up the three flights of stairs we went with our luggage to our room (#35). The room was nice enough, outdated but clean. It had plenty of outlets for our charging our phones and watches, and a spacious closet. The bathroom was lovely, with multiple outlets and a double vanity that suited our needs well. By the next morning, though, the couple we traveled with was having trouble with the room's safe, and two slats of the vertical blinds had fallen out. We asked to change rooms, and staff was happy to accommodate. The second room's bathroom and closet (#37) were smaller but functional enough for us to make do. There were far fewer outlets, and one was partially pulled from the wall. Paint was chipping, but the room never felt dirty... just not well maintained. And then there's the WiFi... -The rooms' televisions use WiFi, and we couldn't get through a single half hour show without losing the connection a few times.. -The speakers around the Villa Venice pool are, I'm guessing, also on the WiFi, as they were CONSTANTLY cutting out. -A couple in one of the corner rooms (#14, I believe) said they had no WiFi connection at all... perhaps because they're so surrounded by concrete in that breezeway? I thought to myself "Maybe Villa Venice is just the last one to get upgraded," but another group we met at the Worthington pool pointed out the torn cushions on the lounge chairs, and segued into their issues with the Grand penthouse they were staying in - the issues seem to be across the board. I guess I'd understand all the deferred maintenance if the resort weren't sinking renovation money into a new café near the resort office, or if they weren't making money off of alcohol sales now, but common sense would be to take care of the rooms FIRST, making sure all the promised amenities are presentable and working. I sincerely hope this is just a period of transition and the next visit will be better - I quickly fell in love with the property last year, and this visit was, well, disheartening.

We always enjoy staying at The Grand. The staff are extremely friendly, and the guest experience is excellent. Some of the rooms could use some updating, but overall it is a great place to stay.

"Nice Place At Good Location . "

Nice place in good location, walkable to the Ocean. We'll probably be back. Hopefully when we do, management's selection of the TV channels offered in their guests' rooms might better reflect the tastes of their clientele .

Good experience but drinks were entirely overpriced. Brought our own drinks in after paying $32 for two glasses of wine. Ridiculous!
