Hotel Sureño Yucatan

For dinner and drinks you have to try Hotel Sureno on Calle 62. First please recognize for their superior service, friendliness and attention to fulfilling all of needs Mesera, Chef Jesus, Karina and all of the staff that we encountered. Start with drinks on their rooftop-spectacular sunset. Next dinner downstairs at La Mata. The carpaccio was delicious. Pulpo risotto was fantastic actually described as "Crazy good". You can get it with shrimp. The yakitori chicken dish was brilliant with a fusion blend of Yucatecan/Asian flavors. The blend was perfectly balanced and on point. Cheesecake made of aged cheese was "melt in your mouth" good. The beet salad was excellent. The service was superb! Their chef was welcoming. We all will return! Go and enjoy! Don't miss this one.

We traveled for a friend's wedding along with a number of friends from the USA. Despite a full house, and demanding guests, this hotel was very accommodating and maintained excellent service throughout the trip. The breakfast package was fantastic- would recommend purchasing. They also have a very spacious private room if you have to do work etc.

The room could use direct light and perhaps a few more square meters but the smiling faces and extra details by far make up for all that.

We spent three nights at Hotel Sureño while visiting Mérida for a holiday. Our experience was mixed. The Good: The hotel is beautiful. It's well decorated in Balinese style (we recognized some of the pieces from an Indonesian furnishing store near our home in San Miguel de Allende). The common areas are open and billowing with white draperies. The staff could not have been more accommodating and friendly. There was always a staff-person around when you needed something. Our room was nicely appointed (other than the practical side, which I will discuss later). The bed was fine (not great). Water pressure was good and the bathroom was, for the most part, functional. We had an end room (#17) which had a small vertical window that provided light but no view. Our room had a huge flat-screen TV. The restaurant was amazing. We ate there twice and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The Bad: The hotel is very noisy when in the guest rooms. The hallways are tiled in an otherwise concrete structure. Sound reverberates and seemingly amplifies from one end to another. Every room door closes with a "boom" loud enough to wake one from a sound sleep. That, that's not the worst of it. Above rooms 9-18 is the bar on the 3rd floor. We could hear music played, the sounds of bar furniture, and people moving above us until the 1:00 a.m. closing time. One evening we learned there was an event at the bar. We anticipated a disruption. We were given another room on the other end of the hotel, on the 1st floor (#2) for the night. That certainly helped. However, the Hyatt Regency, which was a couple blocks away on that end of the hotel, had an outdoor party that went until the early morning hours. I went back to our original room at 3:30 a.m. so I couldn't hear the techno-beats. Each night something interrupted our sleep. The bathroom is screened from the bedroom by frosted glass. It's still transparent. There is no privacy for one on the toilet if there is someone anywhere in the room. We took turns vacating during . . . that time after coffee. Also, while the décor is appealing, there is nowhere to put clothing other than on a few hangars. There are no drawers or shelves. Fine for a one-night stay. More challenging if one wants to unpack.
