On the positive side, the staff was incredibly kind and helpful, always ready to assist with any requests. The view from the room was fantastic, and the breakfast was a highlight—great selection and quality. However, the condition of the room was disappointing. It felt very old and poorly maintained. The shower was not clean, and there was no closet or drawers for storing suitcases or clothes. There wasn’t even a single hook in the entire unit to hang towels or clothing. The bathroom had no counter space, and the sink was outdated. The bed was uncomfortable, with insufficient pillows, and the lighting was poor—just one white ceiling light that made the room feel cold and unwelcoming. Overall, while the service and views were great, the hotel needs serious updates to make the rooms more functional and comfortable.

Clean motel with comfortable beds, plush towels and AC. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Delicious breakfast with 3 options to choose from that include coffee and juice. Ample parking Pool is clean but inquire as to which days they empty and refill so as not to plan an afternoon poolside in an empty pool 😊 conveniently located to LaFortuna and many activities it is close to main road so noise may be an issue for some

Good, spatial rooms with view of the volcano. Everything was clean. Breakfast was good but only three meal options: fruit or eggs & toast or traditional ie. Rice and beans etc. The receptionist was not always around (they split their time across two sites). Helpful when present. Don’t be put off by the dated building, the rooms exceed expectations.

We stayed in a bungalow for two nights. The room was spacious, and the volcano view was stunning. However, the bathroom was disappointing—the shower was terrible, and there was no extra space or table for toiletries, nor were there hooks for towels or clothes. It felt more like a budget hostel than a quality stay. The staff was not very accommodating, and breakfast had only three set options, which were just average. Additionally, finding an Uber or taxi from this location was quite difficult.

Valuable items stolen from Room 20! Note that this hotel does NOT provide any locker box or in room safes. We started off nice in a pleasant location. The next day when we returned from sightseeing highly valuable and hard to replace items had been stolen from our suitcase! Housekeeping and maintenance — to fix leaking toilet - had been in the room while we were away. When we called the police to report this the hotel receptionist came in and kept telling us we must have lost the items since we had no “proof” that theft occurred! He said it was our word against his! That made a bad experience horrible. And because of this episode we checked out a day earlier than planned and requested hotel manager to refund at least the one night. No response!!

All staff are very friendly and helpful. Hats off!

I had to cancel my reservation and Arenal Roca Lodge would not honor their cancellation policy. They refused to reimburse me for any amount of money, telling me that my booking was non-refundable. This conflicts directly with the Expedia travel confirmation email I received immediately after making this booking on Expedia.
