Eternal Flame

The staff were lovely, the man that runs the hotel treated me with complete kindness, I had a friend staying with me, and it turned bad, the host protected me and made me feel extremely safe and comfortable in the situation, allowing a girlfriend i met in hakuba to stay. It is in a relatively good area in hakuba, in Echoland, roughly 20 min walk from Happo one slopes.

There was nothing to not like.

I loved the 3-course breakfast, coffee mornings, lounge, easy access to buy discounted ski tickets, the staff's full attention to our needs (although few), the pickup from the bus station, the quiet nights, the included laundry, and much more. I work in travel & tourism and have stayed in many 4-5-star hotels, and the value, quality, and attentiveness that Eternal Flame delivers are on par. This is a small, intimate place to stay. I loved the private onsen that we used every day. This place is worth every penny.

Everything was exceptional.

The chalet was perfect for my partner and me. It would likely also work well for a family of four, though the stairs to the loft are quite steep and may be challenging for very young children. As others have mentioned, the breakfast is excellent. The onsen on the property, while small, is exactly what you want after a long day on the mountain. Nao always had the recommendations and Kimi kindly picked us up on arrival and dropped us off at the Hakuba bus station for our return to Nagano; every staff member we encountered was friendly and welcoming. It was truly a wonderful experience.

The only downside—less about Eternal Flame and more about Hakuba generally—is the limited public transit. While there is a shuttle stop directly across the street from the property, it runs only once per hour for ski resorts only. Meanwhile, the restaurant options within Echoland are somewhat limited within walking distance. On a future trip, I would likely rent a car both for getting to and from the ski resorts and for accessing a wider range of dining options beyond the immediate area.

Very welcoming family run business. Loved the communal lounge area, massage chairs and onsen after a day on the slopes. Special touches like a welcoming drink, lolly jar and private onsens a bonus. Free Shuttle bus across the road. Breakfast was different every day. Super friendly staff
