Location of the building; the flat is close to train, bus, shopping, Old Town and food court. Well equipped kitchen Washer/Dryer

When we arrived at the flat we found it to be extremely warm. The thermostat read 46 C / 114 F. We tried for to correct the issue but were unsuccessful. I sent a text to the host informing them of the issue. The response I received was "This is the first time I have had a guest complain about heat in Scotland." I didn't feel like asking for assistance in getting the flat to a comfortable temperature should be characterized as a complaint. Further, there was absolutely no apology for the situation. Host called and walked me through turning off all power in the flat and stated that should reset thermostat. This did not work and we slept the entire night with all windows and curtains completely open for maximum air flow. The noise, light (from having to keep curtains open), and heat made it impossible to sleep. I text the host at 7am next morning to request the issue be addressed. The host responded they would get help. But again, no apology for the situation. There was frustrating back and forth during the day. Frustrating because we were on holiday and the solutions being offered were not great. The host told me that they were able to completely turn off heat and would be leaving space heaters. When we returned to the flat the heat was NOT off and it was still 30 C in the flat. Sitting in the flat trying to figure out how to proceed we heard someone using keys to enter (no knock) the flat. A man entered and started working on thermostat. I announced we were there and he seemed surprised that the flat was occupied. He was successful in turning off the heat. The following morning the host text to see how the heat was and finally apologized. An apology 3 days into the issue was meaningless. There was a general lack of professionalism throughout. There is also significant noise from the flat above the bedroom.

Location was perfect, right next to Waverly Station. 5 mins walk to Royal Mile. Heart of the city. Unit was exceptionally clean. Had everything we needed. Bedding was great very comfortable and lots of nice warm quilts and pillows. Even the towels were top notch.

Not very much.

On arrival of the property, the entrance and stairwell was really dingy and smelt of weed. The apartment itself had not been cleaned from the previous guests, it was a complete mess and dirty - washing up in the sink, dirty un-made beds and linen left on the sofa where someone had obviously slept and a dirty bathroom, it was shocking. I called the owner who said he would sort straight away, so we had to leave and go out. When we returned later, it had been cleaned but the bed linen didn't seem to have been changed, but beds just re-made - very creased linen which didn't smell fresh at all. After complaining the owner did remake the next day, but the whole experience was really very unsatisfactory and put a real dampener on our stay.
