Momijiya Honkan Takaosansou

Loved the location in nature, beautiful surroundings, view from our room, trail hike along river. Staff and service was wonderful. Private onsen was lovely.

Room was dated which I don’t mind, it was kind of cool and had a vintage vibe, but the bathroom was not so good, tub and tile were funky in a way that I wouldn’t use it. Still had a really wonderful time. Dinner food and service great, but dining room was cafeteria like with bright overhead lights and no music/ambience. For how rich the experience was and food special, the dining environment didn’t match it.

The place is close to the mountains which makes for a nice getaway from the cities and tourists. Communication for check-in and check-out is easy. The staff helped me once I checked in to show me around the facility and guided me through the amenities such as private onsen, dinner, and breakfast. The onsens (private & public) were very nice and relaxing to use.

There are stink bugs everywhere so be mindful with open windows. The staff and facilities do have various warnings about them, so if you're afraid of bugs, beware.

This ryokan was a special experience on our Japan trip. Booking the shuttle bus was easy and useful both up the mountain and coming down the next day. The staff greeted us friendly. The room was as we expected, spacious and beautiful. I would like to point out the kaiseki dinner which was definitely an experience worth trying. We also booked the onsen at arrival and it had great views besides the experience.

One small suggestion maybe would be to explain in details somehow all the pieces of the dishes we had at the kaiseki dinner. It would have been even more interesting to understand what each piece of the courses was. We have asked about a few from the personnel, but we didn’t want to disturb by asking all of them.

Honestly, everything. The view was insane, the staff were very helpful and polite, the food was excellent. They also provided us with a map of the surrounding attractions so overall it was a fantastic stay.
