"Would have been lovely if only it was possible to easily get in"

Lovely setting, good breakfast, clean comforatble and good sized bedroom.

On arrival (at the time I had advised in advance) I knocked at the front door and the side door but no one answered, even though there were lights on and the house appeared to be occupied. Eventually after 15 - 20 minutes of knocking someone answered the door. They seemed to try to make a joke about no one answereing sooner. The following day I went out at about 10am and tried to return at about 3pm. I hadn't been given a key, even though I asked for one. I was told the front door would be unlocked. It wasn't and I couldn't gain access to the house/my room - I had returned to get a waterproof and a book but couldn't. After 20 minutes of knocking, walking up to the farm to see if I could find someone, trying all the other doors and calling out I gave up. I returned at about 5.30 and decided to not stay the 2nd night in case I wouldn't be able to get back into the house after going out for dinner. I get that the owners were busy on the farm, but if you want to also run guest accommodation you either need to be there to let the guests into the property or provide then with a way of getting in when you are not there.

"Exceptional"

Higher Melcombe Manor is a very charming house and a lovely place to stay! Simon and Nicky were very friendly and welcoming hosts and the room was very comfortable and came complete with a generous en-suite and separate living room. I would highly recommend Higher Melcombe, very good value for such a nice stay.
