The Green Iguana Hotel

The manager was responsive and helpful. The room was clean and there were always plenty of towels.

The hotel is close to the waterfront. However, that part is a bit misleading. Although on a map it's close, you have to take 99 stairs to get there (it's literally called 99 steps!) The down part wasn't bad, but the going up could be hard. We also think that customers' comfort level could have been easily improved. Our room had the bed right next to the bathroom door. Unfortunately, the bathroom window was really large and only had a thin white curtain; and the bathroom had a vented door. Also, the window right behind our bed only had blinds installed halfway (I didn't understand the reasoning at all). So in the morning, there would be a lot of light shining right in your face. When my husband and I had a vacation, we liked to take it easy and sleep in sometimes. It was almost impossible to sleep in with such strong light. I blocked the bottom of the window in the bedroom with some books and my jacket. My husband hung a towel over the bathroom door, but the light leaking through was still very bright. This could have easily been resolved by putting a dark curtain in the bathroom and having full-length blinds installed in the bedroom. The customer can decide how much light to let in. However, that wasn't the main reason we rated a 5/10 for the hotel. It was the noise of construction in the hotel. Every morning I was awakened early. With my white noise machine on, I could ignore the noise. However, on a Sunday morning, we were awakened by some very loud noise outside our room. I looked at the time and it was 7:55am! We checked and found a worker sanding the wall beneath our window. What kind of hotel would disturb their guests by having construction work started that early?! On a Sunday no less! Very unhappy about that! A word of caution: the one restaurant really close to the hotel is jolly rogers and they have really terrible food.

Fine for us but not ideal for anyone with mobility issues. Steep hills and lot of stairs if you want to walk.

What a lovely spot up the hill from the nicest part of town. Chase and Lyndsey -- the owners -- were delightful and helpful, and our accommodations were everything we had hoped for. We stayed just one night after sailing around BVI, and found the location to be very walkable from the more developed part of town where there were plenty of restaurants. Several other reviewers noted that Green Iguana is quite a bit higher (elevation) than the town. This is true. It's about a ten minute walk from the main shopping and eating area up a hill and then further up the 99 Stairs to the Green Iguana. It's definitely a climb. But we did the climb four or five times in the 24-ish hours we were in Charlotte Amalie without any trouble (we and our friends are in our late 50's and early 60's). The views are spectacular and worth it.

Chase and Lyndsey bought the hotel from the prior owner just one week before we arrived and were eagerly looking to make small improvements wherever possible. The truth is, there's not much to do. We noticed some very minor things (and shared them), and we could see how proud Chase and Lyndsey are to address these small matters.

The views are fantastic. The Jolly Roger restaurant/bar next door is fun with excellent service. The bed and room are very comfortable with dishes, microwave and refrigerator so you could be comfortable for awhile. Hosts have great communication and are very nice.
