The Boathouse

When we arrived at the boathouse, we where welcomed with a big smile. This already felt so good! The bungalow (one of the only two bungalows) is located at the river, so you can lay in your hammock and watch the Mekong. The bungalow is simply furnished but the beds where good and they had a fan. Don’t expect the Hilton when you pay only 10 dollar. ;) Mike and Tip are incredible nice and warm people and we wished we could stay longer. I also would recommend the massage you can get there. The girl who does that is amazing! We really enjoyed our stay and where sad we had to leave!

People who complained about the water in the shower coming from the Mekong should really do a bit more research about the island!! It is not Europe and there is no water system on the island. The people here don’t have the (stupid?) luxury to pour drinking water over there heads or in the toilet!

We spent a few days in the private bungalow of Tip and Mike. The room is rudimentary - don’t except a 5 stars hotel - but it was perfect for us. Tip’s cooking is amazingly good and she cooked for us a western meat stew, thank you again ! They are so welcoming and make you feel at home. We loved spending time with them, it made our stay even better. You can rent bike at the guesthouse next door to go easily to the heart of the island.

Great location, run by lovely people. Made me feel very welcome. My whole time there was a joy. Highly recommended. I didn’t want to leave.

Beautiful location with a lovely view from the terrace. We could walk into the centre of Don Det or over the bridge to Don Khone. Comfortable beds, clean room. Easy check in and check out, carried out capably by the owners' young daughters. Cold shower only, but wasn't an issue in the hot weather. Western toilet with a bucket flush, again not a problem for us as it was very clean.

- Helped arrange boat and bus ticket up to Pakse - Owners were kind and welcoming and approachable when we had questions

- Room was roasting, fans weren’t the best - no AC - Lights in the room are very weak, better off with a head torch - Shower and sink use river water - often very smelly - Owners charged more than that was quoted on booking.com (incorrect listing apparently) - Thought this was very poor - WiFi didn’t work in room - Sink doesn’t have strong running water. So wastage water pipe doesn’t empty and smell horrible
