Old and upstairs rooms in need of a makeover. Shared bathrooms. Coal trains noisy all night. Kitchen closed for renovations

The Hotel is located on the main street of Scone and is within easy access to shopping centre, cafes and food outlets, of which there are very few. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean when we checked in. Apart from this there was nothing positive about this establishment or short stay.

The communication from Booking.com and the hotel was unacceptable. After booking in January, I had sent inquiries through the Booking.com app and a direct email to the hotel asking for confirmation that our room and the premises was disability access friendly as my wife has mobility issues. I received no response. I eventually called the hotel and was able to get confirmation that our room was located on the ground floor, and the bathroom was accessible for a person with disability. I booked the Royal Hotel because the Booking.com site and the hotel website showed all meals were available through their cafe, bistro and restaurant. The information folder in the room advertised a different cuisine was served every night of the week. The photos on all websites & social media pages showed exceptional quality food being served at the hotel. Therefore, we booked 9 nights that this hotel based on the information provided through the websites that we could get meals at this establishment. At check-in we were not informed that the hotel kitchen, cafe, bistro and restaurant were closed for renovations. There were no notices anywhere at the premises to advice guest or patrons about the reno. We did not get the full story about the renovations and no availability of meals until the 4th day of our stay. The manager didn't care. She deflected all responsibility and provided no apology either. The "king suite" is tiny. The kitchenette is a joke and only had an electric kettle. There was no toaster or microwave. The tiny bar fridge door was faulty. The freezer was iced up and leaked. The bath light was out. Only the heat lamps worked. The vanity taps leaked. We advised staff but no response. The room AC was old and noisy & the remote didnt work. The doona had yellow stains. We had a non-smoking room but we had cig smoke billowing through the gap under the entry door from guests sitting and smoking outside our room.

The massive gap under door. Had a billion mosquito's in room. Had to shove a towel under door. Hot water didnt last long
