"Beautiful hall in stunning location"

8.0

Stunning location (Lake district), beautiful historic hall. Peacocks freely walking about, lovely pub 1 mile away. Good powerful shower with comphy beds.

Bar & restaurant closed due to staff illness, i was infomed prior to arrival and offered free cancellation, so slight inconvenience.

"Nice, convenient, reasonable price but could have been better..."

7.0

Good breakfast - choice and quality Great location - close to Scarfell and the lakes Beautiful grounds with Peacocks! comfortable rooms and great shower/bath

We came down to the bar at 2030 and asked for hot drinks - coffee and hot chocolate etc - and were told that the machine was off and no hot drinks were available. There was no offer to make us one via an alternative route - kettle in the kitchen? The heating in the bar was also off and it was not warm. These little things detracted from a nice hotel

"Lovely comfortable stay, the clock tower needed a bit of TLC in places. However, I would stay here again."

8.0

Beautiful historic buildings, loved the birds and cats roaming around the property. Fresh eggs at reception was a lovely touch. Big spacious rooms. The lady behind reception was very friendly albeit a little stressed as she was on her own running the bar as well.

Some on the areas needed freshening up. The plaster around the kitchen window in the clock tower was peeling off. There were splatter marks on the wall on the right hand side of the bed behind the bedside table.
