The Bootham Tavern - York

Lovely room all we needed. Only problem was shower kept stopping working but landlady planned to fix it

Perfect location for a wedding we were attending. Great breakfast and very friendly staff

Mysigt rum. Bra läge. Halva personalstyrkan trevlig, halva mindre trevlig. Frukosttiderna är lite märkliga, vi blev ombedda att vara nere 8.30, men när vi var det fick vi återkomma klockan nio. Dagen efter mycket trevligare personal.

Shower took a while to heat up but ok eventually. Steep stairs. Rooms aren't cleaned day but not really a problem

The room was quite dirty, bread crumbs and other dirt were still visible on the floor, including what I think was a cut nail. Lipsticks marks on the glasses in the toilet and spoons and cups were stained. Water was still in the kettle. Also, the toilet only has a bath, there is no showerhead attached to it - which probably is shown in the picture, so my bad that I didn't check properly. And I won't be taking a bath in a hotel room that hasn't been cleaned properly. The only good thing about this place is the location. I don't think I will be back.

Should not be advertised as a Hotel. Its a pub with rooms. For that, it is perfect and the pub looked great. But the photos and ad on Booking.com are misleading. It was noisy, bed was tiny and it was tatty and dirty. We didn't stay.

It is in a good location close to the center and is a good locals pub. Good for “one for the road” before bed and good live music

This is a locals pub with live music every weekend. It’s not for someone who goes to bed early! You can hear the noise from the bar in the rooms and the bar is open late (and had a lock in when we were there). However we were in the attic room so hard nothing, but in the morning other guests were complaining and checked out early. Breakfast is not veggie friendly - no vegetarian sausages for example. Beds not comfortable - prefer old. The hot water cut out completely in the shower - as in no water at all (not even cold). No way to phone down to tell anyone and as I was in the shower at the time it wasn’t great to have to walk all the way down from the attic, into an open pub, to say that I need to finish my shower. When reported later the bartender was not surprised and said “you should have come down” which suggests it’s a known issue. Photos have been taken well - rooms are shabbier than photos
