The Commodore Hotel

We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights as a surprise for my Mum, who was celebrating her 80th Birthday. Everything was perfect - the bedrooms, the food, the friendly and helpful staff, the stunning views. The hotel even made sure the weather was perfect too : ) Nothing was ever too much trouble, they just made it so easy for us. Thank you!

Beautiful hotel in a gorgeous location. All staff at the hotel were outstanding and keen to ensure we had a great stay. The room was spotless clean, warm and welcoming. The en-suite had an electric shower over the bath. We had a balcony room with a fantastic view across the estuary to Appledore. We didn't have dinner in the restaurant ... but the breakfasts were 10/10. All just perfect :)

There wasn't anything we disliked. I would probably have liked a mini fridge in the room to keep water cold and milk cold for a cup of tea .. but we coped!

We have visited The Commodore a number of times over the years and certainly wouldn't have returned so much if we were not completely happy with our experience. The hotel is in a picturesque location with wonderful views over the estuary. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the food is excellent. The staff are marvelous and we look forward to our next visit.

Welcome home said Gary as he bounded up to us to whisk our luggage to our room. Pot of tea in 15 minutes in the lounge? Gary it would be rude not to. Food exquisite as ever. If you want to charge your personal batteries then The Commodore is perfect. Such lovely guests too. Gary always manages to exceed our expectations, quite something after 20 years. Thank you.

We cannot fault this lovely hotel .. prime location with stunning views . Friendly and comfortable vibe with the lovely staff . The room are wonderful and everything is pure quality.definitely value for money . Every area is spotlessly clean . Lounge area is very relaxing . Staff go above and beyond . Breakfast is amazing , fresh pastries , tasty full English with quality produce . Looking forward to returning

Location accommodation food staff atmosphere all fantastic

The welcome from Gary was exceptional and his attitude was reflected in all the staff we came across. The view from our balcony room is what it is all about, and the bed was really comfortable, probably the best hotel bed we have used as they are normally too firm. The room facilities were okay, lack of shelf space in the bathroom and the loo flush needs attention. There were electrical blackouts on our second evening, inconvenient but eventually sorted. The dinner menu offered an interesting selection, the presentation and quality very good. Breakfast was faultless, service very attentive with plate service as opposed to a buffet. The hotel decor is clinical but spotlessly clean and the grounds well kept but a few colourful flower beds would have been nice ( but would they survive in the wind?). Overall a relaxing and enjoyable stay in a professionally and friendly run hotel.

Your hotel is really good with nice room very clean and good location looking over Instow beach. Staff are excellent with initial greeting from Gary who even carried our bags to room and arranged a cup of tea after a difficult journey of 250 miles and bad weather. So high expectations but let down by menu choices and delivery of food. In the 3days that we stayed there was hardly any change in choice with same starters and main courses being Duck Confit, Pork Belly Plaice. Duck Confit was ok but didn’t want a repeat so I switched to Pork Belly which when it arrived was dry and overcooked so difficult to even chew. So I returned it and was provided with a smoked Salmon Salad which I didn’t request but presented as the only quick alternative. I hadn’t asked for quick as we were staying overnight. My partners fish choice was tasteless so that complete meal was a disappointment for a venue which deserves better food. Our final evening we both chose Fish & Chips to avoid further disappointment and again this was just OK and probably not as good as our local gastro pubs. So our first impressions were spoilt by the food selection and delivery as food didn’t match the other attributes. The only other comment was that we did find sleeping difficult due to the illumination of the room from the green safety light as we are used to a pitch black environment fortunately unspoiled by street lighting. From our initial impressions we had anticipated a return as the beach is a pleasure albeit the sidewalks need clearing post storm however the the food deserves improvement to tempt us to travel the 250 miles for a short stay and the lack of selection deters staying for a longer period which we had seriously considered until last two evening dinners were disappointing. Hope you take these comments as constructive as it did detract from what should have become a regular choice for the future. Yours Sincerely
