Pepos Xul-Ha

Wonderful location, welcoming hosts. Very clean. Good vibe

It’s nice that guests can use kayaks, SUP / paddle boards freely and free of charge. However, four lounge chairs are not sufficient for the number of guests the place can accommodate. The village of Xul-ha is more peaceful and less busy than the downtown of Bacalar.

The access to the lagoon is not everything. Don’t get fooled by the photos. The cabañas and the terrain around it look much more spacious than in reality. Also, contrary to what the photos seem to suggest, most of the cabins don’t have a view to the lagoon. We didn’t get cleaning service the second day of our stay. In any case, it would have been very difficult or impossible to clean due to the limited space in the cabin. When we brought in our backpacks, there was hardly any space left. It would have been nice to have more shelves and hooks in the showers, as well as two armchairs in front of the microscopic cabin. There are only two shared showers and four toilets for the entire premises of Pepos Xul-ha. This requires some coordination between the guests as there are 5 double cabins. The hosts still have to learn how to provide a decent service. On arrival we didn’t get any information as to: the time of breakfast, the time of closing of the entrance gate and related rules, waste segregation, (lack of) room service on the consecutive days, that it was possible to use the common area and the common kitchen, whom to contact in case of need, etc. The code to WiFi was given to me by one of the guests, not the hosts themselves. Basic breakfast was included in the price: a fruit salad and Mexican scrambled eggs with tomatoe, onion and chilly pepper. You can see a general lack of maintenance on the property, e.g. a wobbly water tap that nobody bothers to fix. In general, the price is not adequate to the services provided. The hosts maybe think that the price is only for the access to the Bacalar lagoon and that they can get away with anything.

Great rooms and facilities! Had the whole lake to ourselves and included use of kayaks and stand up paddle boards. Good breakfast was also included, nice kitchen facilities and very friendly staff. Overall loved our stay here!

Keep in mind not many restaurants so will need to cook your meals!

The rooms did not have blankets, so it was so cold to sleep at night.

Incredible location, super friendly hosts, delicious breakfast in the morning, very cute and comfortable cabins. A highlight for us was the free use of the kayaks and paddle boards, which we did everyday! Would highly recommend anyone to book here. 5+stars!!!!!

The location itself and it's surroundings are relatively quiet. Could be something to consider for long stays, for short stays it is just perfect
