The hermitage inn

Very welcoming, friendly staff and lovely, spacious room.

Ideal location for seeing the spectacular castle and the river as a break point in our journey from East Lothian to Riegate as we left after work and no longer drive at night if we can avoid it. Parking and local directions regarding EV and reaching the Inn were inadequate because the young staff member trying to be helpful wasn't yet experienced in such matters. Dinner and breakfast delightful. Room cramped and with a poor electric shower, no bristles on the loo brush, etc. Needs a refresh/revamp but downstairs, bar area and eating places and beer garden delightful. Excellent evening walk around castle and down to the river. Journey onwards down the coast delightful!

Bedroom (see above) and devious route out via the back of the hotel when I was ferrying my wife's musical instruments back to the car.

Location excellent. Full English breakfast very well cooked and good quality ingredients. All staff very friendly and welcoming. Room basic but clean. Parking available across the road.

Nothing to really dislike. It is an old building and has its quirks as you would expect so there were a few creaks and groans from the floors, doors and plumbing. Noise from the pub was not too intrusive and stopped at a reasonable time.

Breakfast was lovely and staff friendly.

Room so noisy and hot. Windows open not an option for noise.

Great value stay in a great location, on the Newcastle - Berwick cycle route. Great breakfast to power me through the next leg of my journey.

It's not quiet. The road outside my window was noisy until late. It was a very warm evening when I was there, so the window was open, it would probably be ok if the window was closed. But also, the pipes in the building must be quite old, as they made a whooshing sound in my room when water was used in other parts of the building. If you are a light sleeper, I would recommend bringing ear plugs.

The staff very friendly..bar was very good and had a few drinks lol..room very clean and comfortable and perfectly situated 😁

Just about everything

Goede prijs kwaliteit verhouding, erg vriendelijk personeel! We hadden niet goed begrepen dat we om half 8 beneden moesten zijn voor het ontbijt, die tussen 7.30 en 8.30 geserveerd werd. Alsnog werden we vriendelijk welkom geheten en werd een ontbijt naar wens klaargemaakt! We waren blij verrast! De ruimten erg hygiënisch en een gezellige kamer!
