My Hill Eco Lodge

Astonishing view, once in a life time - volcanoes, lake, islands, fisher boats... Such idyllic almost unbelievable scenery. Perfect communication with the owner before arriving, he solved any details of the travelling to there. Staff is friendly and helpful. Rooms are simple yet convenient. I staid in rooms, not in a tent and i am perfectly satisfied. No mosquito problems in the room. Food is also simple but tasty.

To reach there is not easy, indeed. Do not follow google maps for going directly to the place as the road there is even worst. From paved R8 road you turn right and you start 8km unpaved road which is really terrible. Be prepared, i spent about 45min for these 8km. It is manageable, just be prepared for really bad road. At the pier they provide free boat trip to the lodge for chek-in and check-out. However, if you want to go to the pier and to use your car during the stay there you have to pay 10$ for a direction. This means you should plan carefully your stay. My intention was while staying there to go with a car for sightseeing but because of the road conditions and boat charge i gave up. You may go for the activities provided by the lodge but as everywhere in Rwanda they are overpriced for solo tourist. However, this place is worth to stay in, definetely!

If heaven exists it must be here. Wonderful place, excellent accommodation, friendliest staff, good food. The canoe trip we did was also very very nice. Peaceful and quiet environment. We were totally in love 🥰

Gervais has a great set up in an absolutely beautiful spot. The twin lakes visit suggested by Gervais was excellent. Good coffee and simple breakfast. Dinner options were locally sourced options and were delicious.

Location, food, staff friendliness.

Rooms were not ready at past 3pm, things were missing in some rooms: towels, mosquito net. We were not aware that we would be sleeping in tents when we had booked actual rooms.

It's on the shore of Lake Ruhondo and has great views of nearby islands and far away volcanoes. It's very beautiful especially during around sunset when the rays from the sun hits the lake water. The tilapia is fresh, delicious and huge and is served with veggies and a starch of your choice. The hike to twin lake viewpoint is short, enjoyable and only moderately challenging for moderately fit people. The views are beautiful especially at sunset and the hike down to the boat pier is quite flat, but you get to enjoy the sounds of birds, frogs and insects. The staff and host are very friendly and helpful.

Activities such as hiking, walk around the village, boating etc are quite pricey for a solo traveller. Better if you have a few people to split the costs with.

Nothing! It was amazing

My hill exceeded our expectation - excellent value for money as the accommodation and food are very reasonably priced. We called the property just before arriving to the spot where you can park the car and be picked up and they immediately sent a boat to pick us up. The staff is very friendly and attentive, the rooms are spacious with a beautiful view onto the lake. We ate well (recommending the brochettes with a side, the beef one in particular is very juicy and tender!) and you can safely leave the car on the other side as the community living there will watch it out for you.

The rooms did not have anywhere were to hang clothes - however the manager mentioned a carpenter is working on it. The place is extremely peaceful but guests/staff might want to play music, you can politely ask to turn it off/lower the volume if you want to enjoy the peace.
