The Mastodon Valley Safari Resort

The staff was very pleasant and caring. They always tried to give us an even better stay, but never were intrusive. The room was just as the pictures tell, the bathroom was spacious and the outside area was well-tended. Thank you very much!

My girlfriend and I had the pleasure of staying at The Mastodon Valley Safari Resort on the 11th of March 2024 for a two-night adventure, centered around exploring Udawalawe National Park. From the moment we engaged with the resort to book our safari, the communication was exceptional. Upon our arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the attentive staff, particularly by Dinusha, who graciously attended to our needs throughout our stay. Our fatigue from the journey quickly disappeared as our bags were quickly transferred from our Tuktuk to our room. Dinusha had some really lovely surprises in store for us, starting with the opportunity to plant a Guava tree on the resort's grounds. A gesture that left a lasting impression on us. Charlotte was also presented with a bunch of flowers! Afterwards, we were led to the restaurant for a refreshing welcome drink, a yummy watermelon juice with an ice cream floater on top. It definitely set the tone for the rest of the trip to come!! Our bungalow was surrounded by so much nature, the sounds coming from the near by trees was intense! Following a quick refresh, we found ourselves treated to a very generous dinner spread, thoughtfully prepared without us even needing to ask. Multiple curries and Sri Lankan specialties to enjoy, under the romantic glow of candlelight by the river. Just perfect! The safari experience organised by the resort was nothing short of spectacular. We were fortunate to witness numerous elephants and other fascinating wildlife, with the added bonus of a packed breakfast thoughtfully provided by the hotel. Our overall experience at The Mastodon Valley Safari Resort was nothing short of unforgettable. The professionalism and attentiveness of the staff, the picturesque resort grounds, and the perfectly curated activities left a lasting impression on us. In conclusion, we wholeheartedly recommend The Mastodon Valley Safari Resort for anyone seeking an exceptional Udawalawe experience.

If we were to mention a minor drawback, it would be the presence of flying insects in our bungalow on the first night due to small gaps in the wooden structure. However, the resort promptly provided a mosquito net for the second night, which greatly improved our sleep quality.

Very welcoming. I arrived early and was able to relax by the pool until my room was ready. Quiet, comfortable and relaxing setting.

Beautiful place, a bit like camping in the jungle. So do not expect a five star hotel. Very friendly staff and tasty food. Absolutely worth of the price.

Only the mosquito nets were missing from the rooms.

Our time at Mastodon Valley Safari Resort was full of excitement! We used it as a base to explore the Safari of Udalawawa. The rooms were comfy and clean, right by the pool. The pool wasn't very clean though, it seemed that it had a filtration problem. The host was super friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. Overall, despite the pool issue, Mastodon Valley Safari Resort was an excellent choice for our safari adventure!

We loved that it made us feel like we’re in the middle of nowhere. Peacocks and monkeys everywhere. The noises of the nature were just incredible and we enjoyed it a lot. Dinusha was super helpful and organized an excursion day to Ella as well as a safari. We enjoyed it all. Our little one was super happy about the swimming pool.

It’s a bit far from everywhere. We were looking for that and everything was a walking distance really. Would’ve wished we had a little more hooks in the bathroom where to hang some clothes of towels.

The pool was super dirty

- nice clean big rooms, in a nice sized garden area - extremely helpful and kind staff - good breakfast - walking distance to the small town area so you can get other drinks/food -so many peacocks seen in the grounds and other animals like monkeys and hornbills

- not the best working aircon - needed the fan on in the room for it to cool down
