The Mastodon Valley Safari Resort

This is a truly magical place to stay. It was super clean and comfortable. The food was delicious - we had the set menu for supper and the curries were beautiful; and a traditional Sri Lankan breakfast which was absolutely fantastic. The garden is lovely - we saw monkeys and peacocks right outside our cabin. And at night the twinkly lighting around the pool and garden means you can sit outside to do some stargazing. We were lucky enough to see fireflies too. Dinusha and her team are all extremely friendly. She kindly organised an excellent safari jeep and guide for us, and we saw lots of elephants as well as birds, crocodiles and buffalo. Superb value for money all round. This place is an absolute gem.

The Mastodon Valley is the calm and peaceful place. It is a perfect choice before a safari! We felt very taken care of - thank you Dinusha 🙏🏼

The room was clean and spacious, and the staff were wonderful in helping booking safari and onward travel. The food is excellent, the breakfast in particular was 10/10!

Relaxed and peaceful place, away from the crowds. Dinusha was so welcoming, making sure the food was just right for us and helping with local information. Evening times we relaxed on the veranda to the sounds of the river, peacocks calling and monkeys in the trees.

Everything. Throughout you can faintly hear the sounds of the wildlife, calling in the trees and rustling through the leaves. The hotel staff took care of all of our needs, they swiftly booked us on a safari and arranged our meals around our activities. Can I add that Dulen lead the experience by being at the forefront of communication and support. His friendly and kind approach meant we felt his constant support should we need it but still left to our own devices to rest and relax! Thank you Dulen!

Our stay at Mastodon was a delightful experience. Clean and comfortable accommodations and Very tasty Sri Lankan food made it a standout choice in Udawalawa. look forward to returning in the future.

We really enjoyed our stay. It is really close to the Elephant Orphanage and the safari tours. We also had breakfast and supper there most days and really enjoyed talking to the other people about what they have done in Sri Lanka. Very helpful staff. Always around if you needed something. Great location as it is a bit off the main road but still an easy walk to town. Lots of birds singing and you can see monkeys around.
