Hotel de Campo Caño Negro

Our very comfortable room was between the hotel swimming pool and the lagoon that is part of the Cano Negro reserve. It was great to be able to take a short walk through a beautifully landscaped yard filled with fruit trees and see so many water/shore birds - even a roseate spoonbill - from the property. You could go through a gate to walk on the lagoon shore. There were also two birding hotspots set up across the road from the rooms where you could see a large number of beautiful birds and wildlife. While we were there a troop of spider monkeys regularly went through the property. The swimming pool was much appreciated in the very hot parts of the day and a great way to refresh before dinner. The on-site restaurant serves local food, most of it grown directly on the site, and everything we had was truly delicious. There were also restaurants next-door or a short drive away if you needed variety or a different price point. A trip highlight was the private boat tour my husband and I took with Andrea. He was a marvelous guide, and we were blown away with the amount of birds and wildlife that you could see on the journey. We spent six weeks totally in Costa Rica this trip and this was one of our favorite places. I highly recommend it and definitely hope to go back.

Perfect location for birdwatching and exploring the area. Casual, comfortable and quiet, other than the incredible number of birds around the property. Andreas was an excellent host and communication with him was seemless right from the minute we booked. The food at the onsite restaurant was superb. Home cooked feel with lots of local ingredients and tastes. Loved it. We would definitely stay here again.

Breakfast was very good. Boat tour was excellent. Setting was very good. AC was very good.

Bad bathroom lighting. Over priced for quality. Hard beds.

Loved the restaurant area and the staff. The bird watching by boat was great. The monkeys in the trees were fun to watch.

Too far away and hard to go anywhere without a car. No Wi-Fi in rooms. Could not hike from hotel.

The food was delicious. They put a lot of effort to source their food from their own gardens and have a small farm to provide this food for guests. The beds are comfortable and clean. There is a troupe of spider monkeys that visited every day because of all the fruit trees they have planted on the grounds and there is a lot of birdlife everywhere. Most of all we enjoyed our boat tour organised by the hotel. This took us down the caño negro river where we saw many caiman, Jabiru storks, turtles, and even a very rare striated heron.The hotel staff and owners are friendly and welcoming.
