The Crown Hotel

I think the reviews seem unfair. I received a warm welcome, and staff were lovely throughout my stay. The room was very comfortable with everything I needed. The location is stunning, and the food was very good. Good choice on the Pennine Way.

Arrived at the The Crown and was greeted by a lovely bar man who was very informative towards the rooms, exits, bar times and check out procedure for those on an an early start at the Y3P. Drink and food was lovely with a competitive price. I did quite enjoy the old style feel of the pub.

Unfortunately I do feel there’s a requirement for WIFI, I had little to zero phone signal. In the room a slept in there was a noice coming front the pipework which did interfere with my sleep, if I was staying a second night I’d have requested this to be rectified or moved rooms.

Amazing location and room clean and comfortable

Very rude and unhelpful staff. Customer service was dreadful. The hotel is up for sale and the sooner the new owner replaces the current staff the better. They stopped serving food and closed the bar at 7:30pm but didn't tell us. However, they continued to serve several local customers in a separate bar which we were not allowed to enter. We were treated as a total inconvenience during our stay.

The room was fine. I met a pleasant couple who were also staying there.

I was surprised not to get a cooked breakfast - only cereal and plastic toast - especially given the high price of £90 per night.

Location spot on, warm and dry.

Breakfast ok, though no option for cooked breakfast only toast, cereal fruit and yoghurt. As a location very popular with walkers a good warm cooked breakfast would have been appreciated too. Room very tired, broken toilet seat, could have been a little cleaner, still hair in carpet from previous occupants, around shower screen dirty, bath plug hole still had hair in it.

We arrived at the hotel at 4.40 pm and there was no-one there. The notice on the door had an almost illegible phone number on it and when I rang was advised that someone would be there at 5.00 pm. No-one turned up until 5:10 pm and it had been raining by then for 20 minutes with only a porch to shelter in. There was no apology for having to wait. The decor was old and poor and towels were thin. There was no shower. The owner was brusque and unhelpful and breakfast was just cereals and toast, and not even a choice of white or brown bread. Extremely disappointing and extremely expensive.

Hot shower and radiators on when I returned from days walking. Convenient location. Reserved seating for evening meal.

Flat beer. No hangers in wardrobe. No remote for TV in room. No cooked breakfast available.
