"It was a good start to the holiday"

6.0

First of all the location was excellent - I think it's the only hotel in town, so it was good to get a booking here. Good atmosphere in the pub when we arrived. Meal in the evening was good.

Its was adequate, so no real complaint. The room happened to be above the loos in the pub, and water noises kept my partner awake until after pub closed. I slept through this so may not be a problem for others. Bathroom was basic. A WC, washbasin and bath, no shower, and no hose attachment to bath taps, just a jug, but we were warned in advance so i can't complain. Mattresses a bit soft for my liking, I prefer firm.

The location is ideal for the starting point of the 3 Yorkshire Peaks starting with Pen-y-ghent.

There was a bath with no mixer tap, and no shower. If there was a bucket could have mixed the water and used a jug to wash like a shower. No extraction in the bathroom, and window was painted shut. No WiFi or signal. I needed to leave to meet other people and there was a curfew which was not known before booking. Also planned to leave early to see off walkers and come back but was not allowed to due to the curfew opening time, again not known before booking.

"A comfortable stay in a fine old-fashioned room. In a wonderful location."

8.0

Excellent location, right where the Pennine Way crosses the rail line. Decent food. And - an actual bath, not just a shower! After a hard day hiking over the moors, a bath is JUST what I needed.

Breakfast wasn't much, just toast and cereal. Only had one real ale on tap (though it was January, true.)

"Great place to start hiking"

8.0

Pub/B&B situated perfectly for the Y3P and other outdoor activities. Staff were welcoming & very helpful. Meals were a good size portion & a good selection to choose from. The regular bar was tidy, warm with the open coal fire. New Years Eve was very busy & everyone was incredibly friendly

Poor mobile reception in the area (not their fault) however it would be nice to have WiFi (if they can get it). The room was a little chilly at times, but blankets were there to be used if needed.

"Good Location. Very expensive for the room quality. Priced for location I guess."

Very Dated Rooms. Very Expensive for the type and quality of the room.

"Pleasant"

6.0

Evening meal was beautiful and great value for money with a few beers from the bar. Atmosphere in the bar was lovely after a long day. Our room was clean and comfortable; really wanted a shower and was disappointed we only had a bath (knew this was a possibility on booking - however we were the only people staying that night). Location was perfect for us and staff friendly.

Was really disappointed with breakfast - full cooked breakfast signs taped over in bedroom …. cereal, yoghurt, banana and toast given with no “what would you like for breakfast”. Although this was ‘ok’, the price paid for the room was not reflected in the breakfast part of ‘bed and breakfast’ and honestly felt that as we were the only guests they just ‘couldn’t be bothered’ to cook breakfast (salt, pepper, sauces on breakfast table … were they for the cereal?).

"Village pub =accommodation in beautiful village"

Great location on Pennine route. Very friendly staff. Wonderful people. Buy the pub is feeling a bit tired and dated. Perhaps it's because the pub was fir sale and the enthusiasm wasn't there...

"If you are walking a long distance path then worth booking otherwise consider outside Horton"

5.0

Staff carried my bag up stairs

Sometimes when I am walking I come across a b&b which feels distressed. This is one of them. The information in the room was like an Old Testament invocation of ‘Thou shalt not….’. I had read other reviews beforehand so was bracing for the worst. It wasn’t that bad although at £100 it was clearly overpriced. However, I needed somewhere to stay, it did the job, and got a decent sleep for an early start. I couldn’t review the breakfast as I was up too early. I was kindly given one of those instant porridge pots but had to leave it due to then remembering that I reacted badly to them.
