"Nice boutique hotel, good service, great food."

8.0

Coatepec is what is cold one Pueblo Mágico. The hotel is very well located in front of the Iglesia de la Virgen de Guadalupe and a very short walk from Catedral. A very well maintained house, each room is different. Very ample. The food is incredible, and the restaurant has plenty of art from very known artists like Dr. Atl. Nice decor and good service. Some of the rooms suppose to have ghosts, I have never encountered one. However need updating in the old tv's and in the beds.

"Fine and nice but the prices are just short of insane"

6.0

Very tastefully decorated and an efficient staff make this a fine place. Some of the suites are really grand but be aware that the smaller rooms are very average. Nothing horrible but when you consider the prices, you have to wonder what you're getting. A very little snooping will find you comparable rooms at a fraction of the price. Continental breakfast is included but there are countless great places within walking distance for an incredible meal. The hotel was pretty full when we were there and the service was way off. Maybe it's better when it's slower. But I'd suggest skipping out altogether. Common areas are beautiful and the tromp l'oiel painting is excellent. I'd only come back if the prices drop or I was the guest of an insanely rich person who likes to waste money.

"Past it prime - but still very good"

8.0

This hotel is a converted hacienda. The facilities semm to have seen better days, and the room rates reflect it's reputation more than it's current condition. However, the staff is top-notch, and you'll want for nothing in terms of service. From the chamber maids, to the desk clerks, to the manager, all were very helpful and courteous. The was a wedding one day while we were there, that was the only commotion we experienced. The rest of our 10 day stay was peaceful and relaxing. Value for money is about the only reason I might look somewhere else on my next visit to Coatepec.

"Charming Old World Posada"

8.0

My recent 5-day stay at the Posada Coatepec was pleasant and relaxing. The Posada is located just 2 blocks from the main zocalo, banks, restaurants, bars, the local mercado and several shops selling coffee (beans or ground, your pick). The rooms are large and well appointed and best of all. The bed in my room was comfortable and I slept well every night. When I checked in the toilet in the room did not flush proper. That was fixed within 20 minutes of reporting it. The room was made up promptly each morning and unlike other reviewers I found the front desk staff gracious and helpful, though there were a couple of guys who need to learn how to smile. My biggest service complaint was with the restaurant. The food at Posada Coatepec is actually quite good. The waitstaff, not so much (i.e. somewhat slow and not always responsive to requests). The morning coffee was fragrant and delicious and available any way requested. Most breakfast plates included fruit, either whole, as a fruit salad or as a licuado. No matter how it was served the fruit was beautifully ripe and luscious. If spending time in the area, the Posada Coatepec makes a good homebase from which to explore this part of Veracruz

"wanted to stay at reputed most beautiful hotel near Xalapa"

6.0

We wanted to visit Xalapa for a few days and thought we'd book into Posada Coatepec since it appeared to be very near Xalapa. A taxi to Xalapa cost us 70 pesos + tip. About Posada Coatepec and Coatepec itself: Posada Coagtepec is beautiful and is within easy walking distance of the Coatepec Zocalo (about 4 blocks). Coatepec is a magic town and there are elements of Pueblo Magico there but I can't quite explain how it lacks the magic town feel of other magic towns. I felt an undercurrent of dourness. Hotel Posada Coatepec has a baroque, Himmleresque manager and a pretentious unfriendliness pervades and permeates the staff. Sad, really, when it would be easy to be friendly.

"what a find!"

10.0

We discovered this hotel while visiting Coatepec. We asked to see the inside of the hotel and some of its rooms. The staff was very friendly and very proud to show off their place. The place is like an old hacienda with courtyards, gardens, a swimming pool, a restaurant, and a bar. It is totally gorgeous, and right in the center of the old city. We booked 3 nights and wish we had stayed longer. Because it was so slow when we were there, they upgraded us to a suite at no extra charge. Oh! And did I mention what a good value it is ? The staff was most helpful with information for trips etc... A big thank you to the manager and the staff for making us welcome and comfortable in Coatepec

"Smell of Roasting Coffee in the Morning - Excellent Base to see some of Veracruz"

10.0

Posada Coatepec is an excellent base to see some of Veracruz´s best. We stayed here for 3 nights and branched out from Coatepec to see Xico, Xalapa, Naolinco and the Port of Veracruz. If you are looking for not leaving the hotel and just relaxing, the Posada will also fit the bill. Everything about our experience was really perfect, from the valets who received the car to the reception and of course the restaurant and hotel staff. In our opinion a much better option than the noise and business of Xalapa. A very well done small hotel with large open spaces with beautiful gardens, nice and friendly staff and just a wonderful stay.

"Relaxing stay"

8.0

We stayed here for one night in Nov 2008. Our room was on the ground floor on an interior courtyard. We had a small sitting area separate from the bedroom. Rooms were large. Positives: - comfortable beds - traditional hacienda style decor - lovely dining room decor - good location Negatives: - dinner in dining room was not exceptional - suggest eating elsewhere - not everyone speaks english (probably because there are not many english visitors)

"terrible attitudes!!"

2.0

Travelled to warm/sunny Mexico with my wife and nine year old daughter for a few weeks till Xmas. Started off in Puebla, staying and finishing our trip for a total stay of 2 1/2 weeks at the very cool Mesones Sacristia de la Compania which i will also review too. Then on the road to Xalapa, Coatepec, Veracruz City, and back to Puebla .Staying a few days close by in Xalapa we decided to take a taxi to Coatepec and check the Hotel Posada Coatepec which we learned of from here, (we had planned on staying there a few days too.) After seeing a few rooms we decided on a very nice large suite which featured a wooded spiral staircase leading up to a loft bedroom. Our room was next to the admin offices and next to the street. After completing sign in as we were to return the next day we departed only to be chased down the street to be informed as to the annual celebration happening the next day from noon till @ late afternoon, and if that was ok with us. We said yes, of course. Well the late afternoon turned into all night as we were still getting woken up at late as 6 am the next day with horns a honking, etc...Needless to say we were tired the next day and after touring town we relaxed by the hotel pool which was great. Spoke to manager about noise and he agreed to reduce first night stay by 50 %. The interior hotel grounds were beautiful, lots of charm and character but that was where it ended. In our encounters with the hotel service staff we were disapponted as we found the wait staff in the restaurant and the front desk staff to be rude and snobby big time. Communication was not to blame as my wife and daughter are born and raised in Mexico City. They just had this poor attitude, like they were special because they worked there? They did not give us any sort of Bueno Diaz, etc..greeting, or helpful as to suggest where to go in the town to explore, etc.. either. Never seen anything like it as I have travelled to Mexico more times than i can remember staying in many different towns, and cities along the way. Upon checking out the manager was there and did not take a moment to say good bye and to hope our stay was fine. Understand there was nothing personal with them in our stay. After leaving we spoke to the taxi driver leaving town and he had heard our story from previous folks who stayed there. It turns out the owner who was not there, also owns a few other properties and has an attitude too. Too bad it filtered through to most of his staff. my advise, stay away, as there is a nice hotel around the corner we learned of a little too late, with friendly, charming staff and for a lot less money too! PS. the exterior of the building needs a new paint job big time! it looks like the exterior of a run down garage shop. Oh yeah, the town was lovely. Best coffee in all Mexico!
