Bamboo Zanzibar

Merci au jeune homme qui nous a servi toute la journée + soirée, il était gentil et professionnel contrairement au manager qui nous a accueilli.

Lorsque nous sommes arrivés, un manager nous a accueilli et nous a emmené dans une chambre premier prix alors que je lui répétais que j’avais réservé la suite avec vue mer (beaucoup plus coûteuse) sans aucune visite de l’hôtel. Nous avons été contraints d’attendre dans une chambre sale avant d’avoir finalement les clés de la chambre réservée, 2h plus tard. J’ai dû me balader dans l’hôtel pour retrouver le personnel et expliquer mon problème plusieurs fois. Ce même manager n’est jamais revenu me voir pendant les 2 jours pour s’excuser (même quand nous le croisions) Le sol de la chambre était sale, le plafond de la douche avec des toiles d’araignées. L’eau de la piscine privée était froide et vous vous faites arrosés par les gens dans la piscine principale juste au dessus. Pas le plus romantique 😣 En revanche le personnel est gentil, souriant et le restaurant correct. Mieux vaut quand même vous arrêter dans l’hôtel voisin, beaucoup plus authentique et cocooning.

Loved our stay here. Service was great, couldn’t fault anything. Stunning restaurant and views of the sea. Also a stunning pool area, loved spending our days here. Amazing gym, yoga and spa space. A really clever concept of the building design. Great location on the beach with the chance to take lovely walks along the beach and pop in to other bars and restaurants that back onto the beach. Great cocktails, good evening menu and also loved the breakfast options. Lots of fresh food that was grown on site etc. On the Sunday evening they had a band play which were amazing! We stayed in a garden room with the pool in the middle, we mainly used the main pool in terms of facilities.

The only downside was the wake up from cockerel at 4/5am which seems close to the garden rooms. The beds were also quite hard.

We traveled as a couple in the summer of 2025; Bamboo Zanzibar was our first stop and we stayed there the first two nights of our trip. We booked a bungalow for night one and an “open villa” for night two, paying a very high price because the property markets itself as a luxury hotel. The reality was completely unacceptable. The property is in a state of decay and bears no resemblance to the photos: poorly arranged buildings, dirt paths with no proper roads, and makeshift rooms scattered in the forest. Common areas and the pool were dirty and unusable; the sea was practically inaccessible. Cleanliness and maintenance were terrible — cobwebs, insects in the rooms (on the first night we couldn’t sleep due to a spider/tarantula), poor facilities and disorganized staff. My first dinner was ruined by spiders falling into my hair — absolutely unacceptable for a place claiming to be high-end. Most seriously: on the second night, while we were sleeping in our open villa, a man entered our room and emptied our safe, stealing jewelry, watches and cash worth over €10,000. We immediately filed a police report and we have audio and recordings supporting our account. After investigations and discussions, the owners admitted that some employees bore co-responsibility for what happened. We believe there was clear internal collusion: staff allegedly tipped off others and even prepared the scene so the thief could act undisturbed (for example, closing curtains around the bed). When we called the security guards, they did not protect us and discouraged us from calling the police right away; the staff and owners showed indifference and offered no real support when the police arrived. After the incident the property even tried to remove our Booking entry as if we had never stayed there — behavior we documented and reported. Not only did we lose valuable possessions, but we were denied protection, reimbursement, or even an apology.

Abbiamo viaggiato in coppia nell’estate del 2025; il Bamboo Zanzibar è stata la nostra prima tappa: abbiamo soggiornato lì le prime due notti del viaggio. Prima notte in bungalow, seconda notte in una “open villa” — pagando una cifra molto alta, convinti di prenotare un hotel di lusso. Quello che abbiamo trovato è stato inaccettabile. La struttura è in evidente stato di degrado, nulla a che vedere con le foto pubblicate: edifici mal dislocati, sentieri di terra senza vere strade, camere improvvisate sparse nella foresta. Le aree comuni e la piscina erano sporche e inutilizzabili; il mare è praticamente inaccessibile. L’igiene e la manutenzione sono pessime: ragnatele, insetti in camera (la prima notte non abbiamo chiuso occhio a causa di un ragno/tarantola), servizi carenti e personale disorganizzato. La prima cena l’ho passata con ragni che mi cadevano nei capelli: esperienza intollerabile per una struttura che si spaccia come “di alto livello”. La parte più grave: durante il secondo soggiorno, nella nostra open villa, mentre dormivamo un uomo è entrato nella stanza e ha svuotato la cassaforte, portando via gioielli, orologi e contanti per un valore superiore a €10.000. Abbiamo immediatamente presentato denuncia alla polizia; abbiamo audio e registrazioni a supporto della nostra versione. Dopo le indagini e il confronto, i proprietari hanno ammesso una corresponsabilità legata al comportamento di alcuni dipendenti. Riteniamo che ci sia stata una chiara complicità interna: membri del personale avrebbero informato terze persone e avrebbero perfino predisposto lo scenario in cui il ladro potesse agire indisturbato (per esempio chiudendo tende e rendendo possibile l’ingresso). Quando abbiamo chiamato le guardie, non ci hanno protetti né hanno consentito di chiamare subito la polizia; la reazione dello staff e dei proprietari è stata di totale indifferenza e scarso supporto, persino nel momento in cui è arrivata la polizia.

Great wifi and great gym. Beautiful view to the sea

Stayed in garden room - it had no indoor shower, only outdoor and it wasnt protected from ants and mosquitos. Moreover, there were cocks and other birds who started singing at 5am and we woke up because of how loud it was. Restaurant for dinner and breakfast terribly slow - one hour waiting time. Never experienced something like that.

Das Hotel liegt an einem wunderschönen Ort – der Strand war einfach herrlich! Die Lage ist sehr ruhig und ideal zum Entspannen. Unser Zimmer war stets sehr sauber, und das gesamte Hotelteam war ausgesprochen warmherzig und zuvorkommend. Wir haben uns rundum wohlgefühlt und kommen gerne wieder!

Bamboo is a true designer’s hotel! Every element of the architecture was carefully considered with surprises around each corner. The architect was brilliant. You do not need to leave the property - it is an amazing place to enjoy and relax. Our ocean-facing suite was simply great: quiet, beautifully furnished and with the luxury of a private splash pool. The staff were friendly, attentive, and the service throughout excellent. The food was fresh, flavourful, and attractively presented - the best we had in Zanzibar. The hotel offers a complimentary laundry service. This is remarkable considering that the other hotels where we stayed charge US rates for laundry. Bamboo sets an impressively high standard. It will be difficult to beat in Zanzibar.

Everything was really good. It is hard to find something to complain about. What we didn’t enjoy is something we found at all the hotels we stayed at in Zanzibar. It seems to be a universal practice to charge three to four times more for drinks inside the hotels than at local outlets. At least Bamboo’s menu was clearly priced in Tanzanian shillings, although the bill is still converted to US dollars at checkout.

Stunning grounds located right next to the beach. Excellent high quality food for a very reasonable price. Helpful and friendly staff who try to make your experience the best it can be. Great spa with highly skilled staff. Pools and views are amazing.

Room pools are in the shade most of the day so on the cold side.
