Sumba Beach House

Contains fresh ingredients and there is a choice if western but also indonesian breakfast options, which I liked. They cover everyones needs.

I don’t know how to sum this up in short, but our stay at Sumba Beach House was absolutely magical. The staff are all amazing, no request is too small and they really make you feel at home. Melky helped us plan activities each day and each ran so smoothly, we had the most wonderful fishing trip with Aldy who helped us see dolphins, turtles, and catch 5 fish. The staff at SBH cooked the fish for us when we got back. Jenny and her bar team were super hospitable, very attentive and the food was delicious and super cheap. All of the staff at SBH are so friendly, speak great English and deliver everything with a smile. This trip was a bit different for us, super relaxing and quite remote. At first when we got there we felt a bit confronted with how peaceful it was but soon came to adjust and it didn’t take us long to settle in and enjoy the beauty of the place. The location of SBH is far from the airport but the best location on the island, transport made easier as the hotel arranges taxi to and from the airport. The hotel is nearby other resorts so if you fancy somewhere different for dinner it’s easy to achieve. You are on the beach front, and when you fall asleep at night you can hear the waves crashing. The bed was so comfortable I wish I could have taken the pillows back home with me. I think this is the most relaxing place I’ve been.

This isn’t something I didn’t like, but something to be aware of - not many places take cars so make sure you withdraw money when you come out of the airport or stop at Waikabubak for an ATM so you don’t have to stress the rest of your stay, as the nearest town is about one hour away. SBH does take card though.

Perfect location, very nice setup, peaceful nice little pool. Great staff who were lovely, very helpful and attentive.

No kettle or fridge in room. Had to pay for everything even cups of tea, which in this price range I think should be free. Breakfast same issue really. Food was fine there in general but nowhere else to go so a little limited and not cheap,, but Sumba prices are more than Bali etc, and in line with that

Location, we keep going back

Location is awesome, surf to put you to sleep and wake you up. Very beachy vibe with unbelievable views. It’s like having your own indo holiday house with a fully stocked bar and kitchen

Should be a fridge and kettle in the rooms and furniture to set up on . Extra charges for example taxes are on made clear from the beginning

Situated right in front of a quiet beach with a small pool and cafe / bar in front. We love the decor and the spacious open toilet. We were thrilled to be treated to a beautiful sunrise. Staff was helpful in organising bikes for our trip to beach nearby. Thank you Melky!

Loved everything about our stay at Sumba Beach House! There are only four rooms at this accomodation so we had the pool area to ourselves alot of the time, and the accomodation is in an unbeatable location, literally ON the beach. There are some reviews mentioning the pricing being a bit off, and I would agree it's quite pricey for what you get inc comparison to Bali, BUT Sumba is also very remote and there's not much competition in the area, and for the experience you get here, it's worth every cent. The staff were also super welcoming and helpful and our room was tidied/cleaned to a really high standard every day. This place far exceeded our expectations - thank you Sumba Beach House!

Organisation of the local activities - there are no documents explaining what activities are available in the area, how to rent the boat to go surfing, etc., and it's all very casual and organised with the property manager over whattsapp, so we didn't really have enough information on what to do and where the tours would take us and when, etc. The surfing and tour of the waterfall and rice paddies turned out to be AWESOME, but would recommend researching it all beforehand. You also need to pay the drivers in cash, so remember to take some. As other people have mentioned in their reviews, there is also very little privacy in the bathrooms as the walls don't reach the ceiling, so you and your neighbours can hear everything that's going on. A few people were very sick during our stay (including myself) which could be an issue for some people.
