Four Monkeys Eco Lodge - Jungle & Beach

Very friendly , helpful owners. One morning , seen all four species of monkeys before 9 am On property . Beach was almost private. Good swimming beach.

Being off grid took some getting used to. Bust a small price.

We liked everything there. The animals you can spot there, the hosts, the direct access to an wonderful beach and for sure their dogs.

We loved the forest setting and the glamping tent was very comfortable

Small piece of paradise. Lots of animals from all kinds whit gorgeous private beach. The hosts are most kindly and gives a great tips about the area. The perfect place to log out and chill from the race of life.

You are completely immersed in nature. This is the true Costa Rica, an untouched little corner of paradise.

Nothing I didn’t like but travel with a strong 4x4 to access the most beautiful beaches in the region.

Amazing place to see animals and disconnect! We stayed in one of the glamping tents at 4 Monkeys for three nights, and thoroughly enjoyed our time, but there are a few things to note that make this not the spot for everyone.  First, the good: so many animals - we saw more here on the first day than in our previous week in various locations throughout Costa Rica! Macaws, green parrots, toucans, 4 types of monkey, hummingbirds, iguana, hawks, pelicans, and even a sleeping sloth. Our recommendation would be to spend as much time on the property as you can and just enjoy it (we didn't book a tour at Corcovado, partly because we were last minute and they book out, and partly due to the high cost. we were so happy we stayed at 4 Monkeys to get what I presume is a very similar wildlife experience). The beach is beautiful and quiet, we only saw a handful of other people along the whole stretch of beach, you can walk quite far. The sunrise is beautiful, worth the early wake up. The hosts, Silvi and Dario, are welcoming, friendly, helpful and a wealth of knowledge of the area and the animals that commute through their property every day. Their pet dogs and cats are friendly and will accompany you to the beach. The beds in the tent are super comfortable, and the attached outside bathroom is clean. The two restaurants/bars we went to down the road (Buena Esperanza, Mar Luna) had good food, if a bit pricey; check with Silvi if they are open, don't trust google.

Now for the things to note before you book: this property is in the jungle, and off-grid, so you will experience the outdoors the whole time. it can be warm, humid, raining, etc. you will hear the animals whenever they wake up and start squawking (which is usually around 4:30am for the howler monkeys right overhead). the tents are close to the road, so you will hear cars/bikes in the morning as well, if you are a light sleeper definitely bring ear-plugs. the road from Puerto Jimenez to the property is not paved, so depending on the conditions it could take 20-40+ minutes to get to town, so try to buy everything you need before you head down. the hosts share their family kitchen and outdoor common area for the guests to use, so you can make your own meals, or drive ~10-15mins farther down the dirt road for restaurants if they are open. power for the property is mostly solar, but they have to turn on a generator for about an hour in the afternoon to top up. wifi is available but only in the shared/common area. water pressure for the shower is super low, but it works, and you'll want to shower cold anyway because its usually warm:). think that covers the 'discomforts', that we felt are well-worth tolerating for the otherwise wonderful experience.

Tranquil surroundings with many animals to watch and direct access to a beautiful beach

I loved everything. If you want to visit 4 monkeys, you habe to know that it is goong to be a nature adventure. you are off grid, the water pressure can be low, the energy is not on 24/7, but at the end of the day, all these things made our adventure so special. it was the best stay in our 5 weeks in costa rica. We even surfed on the beautiful beach on the property, an absolut bonus! we saw more animals on the property than on the 120$ hike in the corcovado(!). our tip, dont go in the rain forest, just stay in the place, enjoy, put on some insect repellant and relax. thanks so much for the taste of your soup and the dessert, what a bonus!
