Larnach Lodge & Stable Stay

Fabulous location on the Otago peninsular. Great views of the castle and surrounds. Confortable beds. Really enjoyed the dinner in the castle and breakfast in the stables.

The castle is beautiful, and it feels truly special to have something like this in New Zealand. The room was warm and comfortable, the breakfast was delicious, and the gardens are absolutely stunning. We enjoyed the dinner experience!

A small suggestion would be improving communication on arrival. We came on a rainy day and weren’t offered an umbrella, and since the rooms are outside require a short walk, that would have been helpful. Later I saw other guests with umbrellas, and when I asked for one, I was told there were none available, which felt a bit inconvenient. (It was not umbrella in the bedroom neither). The check-in was quick, but we weren’t given much information about the facilities, such as whether there was a lobby or a cozy space to relax before dinner. There is a beautiful café on site, but it closes at 4:30 pm and we only realised this the next day as we arrived just on the hours to stay. It would be helpful to have clearer communication about available spaces for overnight guests to enjoy in the afternoon or evening.

A fantastic experience throughout. Amazing value for money (access to the castle, the gardens and a full breakfast were all included), beautiful grounds and outstanding staff.

Showers in the stables were a little small.

The views from the room were amazing and the breakfast was excellent with a huge variety.
