Having been recommended On The Rocks by a friend we already knew it would be a great experience but 8t really was even better than anticipated. Gary's communication was second to none, making it much easier to organise all the details from the other side of the world. Pick up was very smooth. Its a fun start crossing the Indiana Jones style bridge in Bukit Lawang. After quite a few stairs you arrive at the lovely open bar /restaurant area. The welcome drink is very much needed! The bungalow ( we had upper jungke) was lovely with great views and powerful air-conditioning. Food is delicious and the orangutan trip and tubbing are never to be forgotten. Thank you!

De ligging is fantastisch en we hebben een geweldige wandeling gemaakt waarbij we vier orang-oetans zagen en vele andere dieren. Het uitzicht is prachtigen rustgevend

The location was fabulous. It's up on top of the hill above Bukit Lawang village so the views are stunning and it's cooler with fewer mosquitoes. In fact I didn't see any. The steps up are a bit of a climb but well worth it. The lodge has a beautiful garden and is surrounded by forest. I took a half day trek to see orang utans, which was easy as they live semi wild in the jungle nearby. It was a thrilling experience to see them so close. I also visited the bat cave. ...cute bats...on the way to swim in a crystal clear river, with a delicious barbecue provided. The on site restaurant has great food and cold beer. The owner was so welcoming and couldn't have been more helpful with any requests and the staff were super friendly. It really is a slice of paradise and I was very sad to leave!

We loved our stay at On the Rocks! The view is amazing and the breeze alone is well worth the hike up the hill from town (it's hot down there!) The room was very comfortable, and the food was very good. Wawan and team made sure we had a good experience! We had a great time in the park and saw many orangutans on our trek! We absolutely loved rafting down the river back to town as well. Remember that you are coming to the jungle, so there are mosquitos (we got eaten at night). On the upside, you'll also have the monkeys playing in the trees around your place (scampering across your roof even!) and a short hike to the start of the park. We even saw orangutans from our balcony as well - amazing. We would gladly come back and I hope we have the opportunity to do so one day!

Great location, to be reached with a climb of 250 stairs: but all worth it! The service is excellent. Bungalows are basic, but with fan and airco. Food is good, but the best is the jungle with all its animals. We saw the orangutan, gibbon and many other apes and monkeys.
