"A perfectly positioned and very well run, immaculate and scenic hotel."

10.0

We stayed at this beautiful and well run Resort for two nights. Wawan, Joe and on the attentive staff run this place brilliantly. The rooms are lovely and perfectly kept. Its position on top of a hill on the border of the park is a perfect spot for jungle watching and a starting point for jungle treks. We did a one-day walk with Nanang and Ariang and they did a great job showing us around the local forest. With their help we spotted numerous orangutans, gibons, hornbills, a peacock, and even a little snake. It was a great place to stay, and a well-guided walk.

"A beautifully situated scenic hotel right next to the park. "

10.0

We stayed two nights at On the Rocks. Although you have to walk about 200 steps to get there, the panoramic views of the forest and river are worth it. As soon as we arrived, Joe was there to settle us in and arrange trekking for the following day. The restaurant is airy and spacious, with good unobstructed views of the surrounding jungle. It's also right next to the entrance to the park, so the trees are teaming with macaques and Thomas monkeys, and even the occasional orangutan. They have a big menu that caters to a more western palate, but if you ask they'll bring you sambal to kick it up a notch. There's a variety of rooms to choose from, each eith their own character,  from the bamboo house to the sturdier stone house, but all the rooms are wonderfully maintained and clean, with big comfy beds, balconies and hammocks. They're all situated around a perfectly manicured, flower- filled garden. Service is excellent, with very attentive staff always on hand. The facilities and food are top notch, and the coffee really is exceptional. This place is really well run, with a lot of attention to detail. An ideal place to start your trekking and then relax and have dinner afterwards.

"Great relaxing stay at a perfect location, seeing orangutans every day from the room."

Viewing the orangutans and lots of other monkeys from the hammock on our balcony! Great food too!

Sometimes there was a bit of noise from the village.

"OTR June 24"

10.0

Spent 5 nights here with family and friends. Based high up the views are incredible with monkeys and orangutans visiting the outskirts of the complex. Wawan and all the staff very helpful. Botanic gardens beautiful. No better place to watch local inhabitants than the restaurant. Even managed to catch a game of takraw on the complex… definitely returning. Chilled, relaxing and very beautiful.

Amazing resort in the jungle. You can see orangutans from your room. Big climb to reach the resort but the staff helps you with the bags. We had an issue with the water (not available for few hours), eventually fixed. The staff did everything they could to repair the fault, which was due to heavy rain the day before. Exceptional staff. All kind and helpful. We arranged a jungle tour and we had a chance to see orangutans and few other animals. The guide was perfect.

We did only half day tour, and we would suggest to do more, to avoid having many people around in the forest. The tour was in our opinion a bit overpriced. Two chairs and a table on the small terrace would be a nice idea...

"Fantastic location, wonderful encounter with wildlife and such friendly and accommodating staff."

10.0

Dining facilities were comfortable, had a relaxing atmosphere and the staff were very attentive and helpful. The view from our Waterfall cottage was peaceful and its location was convenient to the dining area. Our trek into the jungle exceeded expectations: Not only did we see several orangutans and a huge variety of monkeys, but the lunch was refreshing and the guides were so friendly and informative. Another village tour was arranged at short notice and proved very interesting.

Nothing could have been better.

"Magical experience in jungle!"

10.0

This place is magical! The staff are very friendly and went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. We did the two day jungle trek, the guide was awesome (laughing and showing us cool stuff!). We saw many animals including orangutans. On the Rocks has THE BEST spot for camping (a structure with mosquito net, blanket and pillow) in the jungle; they served us amazing meals (delicious food!), three times a day. The campsites are away from other groups, very private and by waterfalls. We took the river down with tubes, and it was a lot of fun! If you have heavy language the staff will bring them to the hotel and bring them down for you. They even did our laundry when we got back (we asked for it) and all our dirty clothes were clean to be packed for the rest of the trip. At the hotel we stayed at the Butterfly room, which is freshly built and designed so adorably. Highly recommend this place!

"Quiet get away on the border of the jungle"

10.0

I really enjoyed my stay on the rocks! The staff is really friendly, make you feel at home and are very helpful. They arranged private transport from airport to Bukit Lawang (700k IR) and Berestagi (800k IR), as well as a one day forest trekking (50 EUR). Ling was a really nice guide, who took us around the jungle and showed us many different animals including of course the orang utans. Keep in mind that the property is on a hill (+- 300 steps one way) - if you arrange transport with them they will carry your luggage from and to the car, which is great. The food was also really nice, as well as the other guests staying there. I would recommend it to anyone!

Keep in mind the showers are cold - not a problem if you know beforehand.

"Great place to explore jungles"

9.0

The lodge is a real gem on the jungle border. Everything was great, we liked our bungalow, especially the balcony which was a real door to wild nature, yes, with animals visitors included :) The guide from the hotel was highly professional. BTW, a fruit breakfast which the guide made for us during the trekking was soo cute.

The only point which you could complain about is also a good point about the place: while the lodge is located in a remote place on the hill and just on the border of National Park, it is really difficult to reach this place from the village. You will think that you will die over this 1000 stairs to the hill :))
