" YOLO " LOVELY COTTAGE

This place really is special, words can’t describe how beautiful the view is. We woke up to sunshine and by evening time we were watching spectacular lightning from the balcony, you cannot beat the view from this balcony. The host family are so so lovely and will do absolutely anything to help you. If you are coming here then PLEASE have dinner here, the curries were so delicious. Would come back here in a heartbeat!

YOLO Lovely Cottage is indeed lovely. Perched on the side of the hills over Ella, it is a separate 'annexe' in the garden of a family home, situated away from their house, but near enough for the delicious food to arrive piping hot. We sat on the terrace watching the train in the valley below, and the next day our hosts took us by Tuk Tuk to the station to catch a train over the 9 arch bridge. Just a lovely place to stay if you want to be slightly away from the hustle and bustle of Ella.

We have just had a fantastic 2 night stay in YOLO lovey cottage. The family are incredibly kind and we were picked up from Ella station in their tuk tuk, the communication was brilliant and they were there on our arrival. The cottage is away from the busy Ella but you can either get a tuk tuk in or we chose to walk (30 mins) along the rail tracks (very safe and fun in itself). It’s also ideally placed for the start of the Ella rock trail. There is a huge balcony to relax on with great views. Breakfast was extremely tasty and generous. We also chose to have dinner here (on both nights it was so good!) which we would recommend as again the home cooked food was incredible! We would thoroughly recommend YOLO Lovely Cottage and would love to come back one day!

WiFi was intermittent but not needed with the views

Before our arrival the hosts arranged a taxi from Tissamaharama at a very fair price. On arrival they gave us a lovely welcome and stayed friendly and helpful throuhgout our stay. The cottage was comfortable and clean and had everything we needed. The location in the quiet hills above noisy Ella was perfect. The hosts had good suggestions for walks in the area and were able to arrange tuk tuk rides to local attractions. A highlight was the home prepared and cooked meals, a delicious and substantial breakfast and a superb dinner with some of the best flavours in South Asian food we have experienced anywhere.

I loved everything about our 2 night stay here. The warm welcome from the wonderful family and the incredible little house with a terrace overlooking Ella. This exceeded all expectations and I only wish we could have stayed longer. The son arranged for a good price, a friend to take us to the secret waterfall for a swim and to a tea plantation. The Mum made us lovely dinner and breakfast, which was best dinner in Sri Lanka! Thank you Yolo Lovely Cottage 😍

A wonderful stay here - the good reviews are completely justified. The view is jaw dropping from the comfy balcony. It is well worth it to stay here out of the noise of Ella and be able to look at it from the hills. They also provide a tuk tuk service into town for very reasonable. The family was wonderfully relaxed and friendly while still helping you with anything you need (and they collect you from the train station!). The dinner here was the best we had during our 2 weeks in Sri Lanka - don’t skip it!

Should have stayed longer!

Beautiful location 10 min drive from Ella town centre 10 mins walk to start of Ella rock trail. Perfect location if you want a beautiful peaceful place to stay. The accommodation is totally private set apart from the host family home. The family were so friendly and kind and both evening meals and breakfasts were absolutely delicious. The son has a Tuk Tuk and is on hand for trips although we had our owner driver but was very helpful with directions for Ella rock. The room is simple but very clean and comfortable. We felt we had experienced the real heart of Sri Lanka through the warmth of the family, the delicious local food and absolutely stunning views along with monkeys . Can’t recommend enough.

The house is clean and comfortable, up on the hill, in a nice area. The view from the terrace is wonderful, it is very pleasant to eat, play cards or just sit outside. The host family is really nice and friendly: Both breakfast and dinner were delicious. The accommodation is a bit far from the city, but with tuktuk it takes only some minutes. When we arrived, the host came for us to the railway station with his own tuktuk, which you can use at other times for a fair price. We had a great time here, we would come back anytime!

I had the best sleep of my trip so far- the bed is huge and so comfortable and with the lights off it was black out dark with the relaxing sounds of birds and nature outside. The food was authentic and lovely, and the host and his mum were so kind and welcoming. I only stayed one night and didn’t want to leave! The host even helped me find somewhere else to stay after my next accommodation cancelled. It’s a bit of a ride to the cottage in a tuktuk but the host is a good driver so I felt very safe. I spent the following day with the host as my driver for sightseeing for a reasonable price and it was great to have him on hand all day as had just the one day to explore. Definitely stay here if you can find availability!
