Udawatta Kele (UK) Forest Lodge

-A really nice landscape from the hotel -Helpful owners ( scooter rentals, booking train tickets) - you can buy local products

- very steep stairs – not recommended if you have large or heavy luggage. - The room has seen better days – the walls are dirty, and there were old cobwebs in the bathroom. - Communication from the hosts definitely needs improvement: payment details , breakfast was served 20 minutes later than agreed on our departure day (despite us needing to catch a train), the room was not ready even though we arrived late in the evening.

The hosts were lovely, very welcoming and cooked an amazing breakfast and dinner. It was great to eat outside where you can hear all the wildlife as you’re right on the edge of a forest. It’s easy to walk into the centre of Kandy and around the lake. AC and mosquito nets in the room were fully functioning and much appreciated!

You have to walk up a lot of steps to the property which was fine for us but worth bearing in mind, especially as it’s so hot.

Location is a bit tricky as the only access to the lodge is by walking up staircase. Friendly lady owner and good communication. She is happy to prepare the breakfast earlier than usual time as I need to leave for my destinations early.

The family were exceptionally helpful and friendly. Nilimi is the most loving lady and an amazing cook. You must take up on the offer of home cooked food.

The bathroom floor was full of various insects which is expected due to the location. Mayybe clean the cobwebs and remove the insects before guest arrival and during the stay. Lack of storage to hang clothes, if the bathroom was cleaned and a bit more furniture we would have given a higher rate.

Our hosts were the most lovely and warm family, delicious food and beautiful views over the city.

The stairs are steep but fine to manage if you don’t have too much luggage.

A quiet location on edge of Udawatta Forest as well as a short walk to lake and town. Excellent hosts who went out of their way to make stay as enjoyable as possible. Would certainly look to stay at UK Forest Lodge next time in Kandy

I cannot thank the hosts enough. They were so accommodating and friendly . The cooking demonstration is recommended and I felt very welcomed. Nothing was too much trouble and they helped with any information I needed, and were so welcoming.

Just be aware that the property has no direct road access so you need to go up 125 steps to get to the property, I was carrying a rucksack and the hosts helped me with this but if you are not good at steps then you should be aware. This was not a problem for me. It other travellers should be aware of this if they have some difficulty with steps.

The family who run this guesthouse are truly kind, generous, helpful & authentic people. I had some lovely chats with various family members & they made me some absolutely delicious food for dinner & breakfast. When I left something behind, they sorted this out & helped with an umbrella in the torrential rain. Just beautiful people! You can also see monkeys here 🐒🐒🐒😀😀😀 oh & the beds are very comfy!!

There are quite a few steep steps to get to the property but to be honest everywhere in Kandy does!! The welcoming & service they give far outweighs this, you're in very safe hands! Thanks for a lovely stay 😊

We really enjoyed it here ☺️ The place is perfectly located if you want to stay close to the temple/centre (10min walking distance) and still in a calm surrounding. In Kandy is a lot of traffic so it is good to stay in a calm neighborhood. The breakfast and dinner was amazing and they really took care of us 🙂 we participated in the cooking and learned how to cook Sri Lanka dishes 🌶️🍲🍛🍚 What was also really nice for us were the interesting conversation we had about Sri Lanka to get a better understanding. The whole family speaks really good English and could answer all our questions about the country and history. Our little daughter also enjoyed it a lot to play together and we also had a chess game ☺️ We definitely recommend this place as it was for sure the best place for us in Sri Lanka ☺️
