"Lovely, comfy, homely stay."

9.0

There weren't many properties available for my time at Nozawa Onsen so I ended up having to get a room that could fit 3 but it was just for myself! Therefore I did have to pay more than I had hoped but that was my own fault for leaving it too late to book. Therefore there was plenty of room for me and I loved the Tatami style room. It had its own fridge and heater/dryer plus a small table. You could also hang your own gear in the room if you weren't comfortable with using the large dryer room by the entrance (which was very safe to use and the preferred option once I had sussed it out). There was also a safe available to use in your room. I mistakenly didn't book breakfast but had seen on some reviews that the breakfast was really great so I added it on and i'm really glad I did. Not only was the breakfast made fresh every day, it was a different meal each time! Super tasty and varied and filling. Breakfast is strictly from 07:30 - 08:30 with the latest to be seated at 08:00 but this works out pretty well if you're planning to get the first lift. The main gondola station is a bit of a walk (20 mins roughly) however after I pick dup my rentals, I opted to just keep all my gear at Aigakusou and then walk to the Karasawa Chair lift (roughly 5 mins) where you could then ski/board to the main Nagasaki gondola. A great little warm up to get to main gondola. The owner was very friendly and we both often used Google Translate to ask any questions/converse. There are facilities for a bath/spa on site and showers but I ended up just using the public onsen just down the road (roughly 3 minutes walk) so can't comment on it. The property is about a 7-10 min walk into the main part of Nozawa Onsen so you could say it's a TINY bit further out but not enough to be complained about. Within the property there is a communal living room/kitchen on the first floor where you can make hot drinks/tea or just relax outside of your room.

There wasn't really anything to complain about! I suppose if you're after fancy, modern aesthetics then this isn't the place for it. Much more of a homely, family, local feel.

"Great location, lovely breakfast"

10.0

A very friendly guest house, such a good location walking distance to the ski lift, the main area of town and the public onsen. Breakfast was thoughtfully prepared every morning, although I would recommend double checking whether you have it included in your booking as it seemed to trip up a few guests!

"As good at a luxury hotel, with a Nozawa Onsen twist."

10.0

We paid for home made Japanese breakfast and it was very good and of high quality. Bedding was very clean and extremely comfortable. Of course you're expected to share the bathrooms, like all other B&B so that was ok. The bath tub and shower was very comfortable for our family with endless towels, good quality soap etc. Comfortable kimono made it even better. We broke up the trip and stayed at Kawatatsu around the corner. (There was limited availability at Aigakusou) Kawatatsu was a similar property, but more expensive and less comfortable. For example, Kawatatsu asked us to put on our own duvet, make our bed etc, no kimono, the shower is on a timer so you have to keep pressing a button to make the water come out, the shampoo, handwash, body wash was of the cheapest quality. We rented our ski gear at the gondola and left all our equipment there daily. It made everything very easy. We were staying at 5 star hotels in Tokyo, and even compared to that we loved the stayed at Aigakusou. Highly recommended!

It's pretty cold to use the toilet. The flip side is that no one is squatting to take #2 because it's so cold!
