"A Must Stay Location"

10.0

We stayed in one of the luxury riverside chalets and it was a unforgettable experience. The location and views were unbeatable. The foot available at the restaurant was delicious, which is especially amazing given the remote location of the hotel. The staff were all very helpful through the booking process and whilst we were there. I would definitely recommend this location to anyone looking to visit the Milford Sound as it gives you the option to explore the area more thoroughly across multiple days.

"A Truly Special Stay in an Unforgettable Location"

10.0

Staying at Milford Sound Lodge was one of the highlights of our trip. The location is simply extraordinary — nestled right in the heart of Fiordland, surrounded by towering peaks and rainforest, it feels completely immersive and remote in the best possible way. Waking up to that landscape, with the river flowing nearby and the mountains rising dramatically around you, is something we won’t forget. We stayed in one of the riverfront chalets, and I can’t recommend it highly enough. Having the river right outside the deck made the experience feel peaceful and private, and the chalet itself was beautifully appointed, warm, and very comfortable. It struck the perfect balance between luxury and being close to nature. The food was also a real highlight. After a day exploring Milford Sound, it was such a pleasure to return to a well-prepared, thoughtful meal in a relaxed setting. The quality and presentation were excellent — far better than you might expect given how remote the location is. What really stood out, though, was the team. After we left, we realised we’d accidentally left a couple of items behind. The staff were incredibly helpful and proactive in getting them back to us quickly and without fuss. That level of care and service says a lot about the lodge. If you’re visiting Milford Sound and want to fully experience the magic of the place rather than just pass through, Milford Sound Lodge is absolutely worth it — and definitely book a riverfront chalet if you can.

"This hotel could benefit from some competition"

8.0

This hotel suffers from having a monopoly . If it had a bit of competition it might be better. It is expensive, but the location must add to its costs and it is beautifully remote. The staff were very good as well. The rooms were perfectly ok although their terrace furniture could be improved. The dining room is very disappointing, with all the wonderful views available this looks into the carpark and shares the space with reception. A well sited bar with comfortable seating would be an advantage. We were underwhelmed by dinner, it’s not as great as all that and the mussels in particular were very overcooked. The menu doesn’t (maybe never?) changes, and with all the fresh fish available that is a great disappointment. Even the staff complained about their outdated accounting software. It is very nearly a great hotel but could be much better

"Great stay!"

10.0

Obviously you stay here for convenience but I was very pleasantly surprised at how nice it was. Room was very modern, clean, comfortable and silent. We had to stay in a 2 room suite since it was all that was left. The only downside to these rooms is that you are just looking at the front of another little cabin but no one really walked by so it is still private feeling. Only thing you should know (this seems pretty obvious) is that there is nothing else to eat except at the restaurant which has quite fancy food for dinner, so if you’re in the mood for something more casual/simple or have dietary restrictions and are staying more than one night, you may want to bring some of your own food or go over to the cafe at boat by 3pm and grab some (food there was surprisingly good in variety and taste). Breakfast was nice, very hearty even though “continental” and delivered right to your room when you want it. What was really great was the customer service. They got us in early for dinner when we were starving even though they were full. Also, when I notified the hotel the night before that we would be checking out early (before breakfast) the next day for a hike, they asked me if they could prepare us a breakfast “to go”.

Topligging

In het restaurant was er wel iets voor kinderen voorzien, maar lag absoluut niet in dezelfde lijn als het diner voor volwassenen.

The properties location is situated in one of the most beautiful sites imaginable.

Most expensive price per night I’ve ever paid. Was it worth it? Probably so!
